I agree to an extent mate (especially as most of my family are season ticket holders at swillsboro) but they aint aif loved it when they were chucking daft money about 'lets blow em outa water and sign Rhodes' and 'we can outpay anybody in this division' were common statements on Owlstalk when it all kicked off. They seemingly have stoodby and allowed Chansiri (who bought the club cos his son likes football even tho he knows nothing about it) to almost irradicate the clubs identity. He made em play in a Ipswich town shirt, plastered his name all over the stand and their shirts, they all stood up and gave a 2 minute applause when the king of thailand croaked it at a game, bought riddiculously old players on massive wages and got the fans to pay for it with 99 quid shirts and £600 season tickets but they sucked it all up cos they thought they were doing their bit on the premiership express. All this on the back of Chansiri pumping millions into the club to stave off financial fair play by seemingly creating fake companies to hide it as 'revenue' (D.C taxis and Elev8). They have killed the golden goose and now are paying for it like many clubs who have cheated their way through the leagues by chucking money at it. I have some sympathy but only so far.
If someone can show me posts of fans querying where the money was coming from when they were dishing out £30 & £40k a week contracts & taking our top scorer & making him their fifth choice striker on £18k a week then yes, I feel sorry for these fans. But all the fans that came to Oakwell singing ‘feed the dingles’ & Sam Winnall’s name to goad us then you deserve all you get & I hope your club ends up in the **** like Coventry have been, down the leagues & skint
It is difficult to feel sympathy for delusional Wednesday fans. They were quite compliant and happy to be the big spenders. They’ve always thought they were the “massive” Wednesday, and should be regulars in the champions league. They have ripped the pish out of all the poor local clubs, and bought their players, with no thought of playing them. It’s about time they shook hands with Ronnie Real.
I've no love for SWFC whatsoever, but given how close we came to folding in 2002, I do sympathise with their genuine supporters. Whilst the causes were very different, it could have been, and very nearly was, us. Yes, they do have "delusional" followers and those who never question the level of spending or wages when things are going well, but that's not specific to them. Certainly puts being careful with the pennies into some perspective and shows that there are no guarantees of success.
Wonder if our attendances would spike if these actually went under. All these Barnsley Owls without a club to support suddenly realising they live in a town with their own team
It's not as bad as it used to be back in the 80s/90s . Many jumped on the Wednesday bandwagon during the " glory years " . I find young uns born in the borough generally support the reds these days .
Their supporters are different to those of other clubs though. They are oddly cultish and all appear to be be the same "type" of person. There are about 5 of them where i work and you could not distinguish between any of them: they are clones. I find their support base incredibly weird. I don't get this sense when seeing or speaking with other supporters, certainly not sheffield united's and even leeds' supporters i feel have a tongue in cheek attitude behind the delusion of greatness.
Its not that long since Mandaric got Co-op Bank to write off abart £30 million to get em art of the pigshite.
