The ground. My only previous experience of Glandford Park was as a player in a charity match 20+ years ago. My memories of that were that the ground was neat and tidy, and the facilities good. However, yesterday, as a spectator, it was not that great. I don't want to come across "Wednesdayesque", because I have no problem with smaller grounds, and actually the view was ok, and the atmosphere good, BUT how the hell do they get away with the facilities they are offering? The bar area was not much bigger than my living room, with fans queuing down the middle, and everyone with drinks rammed down the sides.Very claustrophobic, and dangerous in my opinion. One tiny door in, and an equally tiny fire exit. I'd hate to be trying to get out in an emergency. Weren't Barnsley denied the opportunity to sell alcohol in th Ponty End due to lack of space in the concourse? This was frighteningly cramped. The other thing - the toilets. 2 cubicles for women. Cubicles full of spiders, Daddy long legs and cigarette smoke. I was just shocked that a purpose built stadium, was so poorly equipped for the number of fans it was catering for. The game was poor in the first half, spoilt by a ref who basically dished out three cards, simply because their players asked him to. We looked poor, but credit to the players. That double substitution was bizzarre and brilliant in equal measure. Brown initially at left back, when there were two full backs available on the bench? The change to move Brown onto the right, caused havoc, and was instrumental in us getting a point. Loved the fact that the players were so shattered and disappointed with the draw. Showed great character. A poor game was turned into a very enjoyable one.
I agree about the experience. Matchday programme too small and nowhere near as good as ours. Did like the player interviews asking them random questions though. Car park took half an hour to get out which they should be able to do much quicker. The way to the gents is way too narrow even for skinny people to walk in and out of and nothing was done about people smoking in there. Plus the female steward was a party pooper for stealing the inflatable willy.
We watched the game through the goal net and there was a bloke to our right who's seat was directly behind a support post. Also heard bloke behind us say they had run out of pies at half time. I like league one, and these smaller clubs look after my blind mate much better, but they're a squeeze for a large away support like yesterday.
I have to say I love visiting the smaller grounds. Rochdale last week was a joy: - proper old fashioned ground. - best fish shop in England. - best away end in the League with loads of tickets. - best programme in the division. Written by fans for fans. - beast pre match music i’ve ever heard. - good set of ‘proper’ supporters. - easy to get to the ground and away. - brilliant performance and three points. Pity they have such a dick as a manager.
A lot of the complaints in this thread are funny considering they're the same complaints people have had about Barnsley. Car park taking too long to get out of. Spiders in the toilets Smoking being allowed Running out of pies Stewards removing inflatables
Following advice on here we walked over to Tesco and had a drink and a Bun strolled back and drove straight out and home.
Hope you don’t get a ticket in the post for parking there. I seem to remember last time I went that they have a strict time limit on parking on match days, to deter football fans from taking shoppers’ spaces. There may have been number plate recognition cameras to enforce it. Apologies if I am wrong but I just have a vague memory from our last visit there that this was so
No I was in the stadium car park, I ment we walked over to Tesco and went to the cafe, then by the time we strolled back to the ground the traffic had cleared.
Sorry! I didn’t read it properly. Good decision to wait for the crowd to clear before getting in the car. I actually got away with parking in Franky and Bennies on the last visit. Had a coffee in there just in case anyone was watching as I parked.
Are they buying Rotherham’s ground off them? I’d hate us to have a ground like that. It epitomises everything I dislike about soulless graveyards bart any kind of atmosphere that people crave these days. It’s similar to sitting in the b & q cafe.
Bloody hell that's bad. We were on a row level with the disabled entrance to the ground near the Radio Sheffield car so wasn't too bad compared to some that must have taken an hour. Next time will set off earlier and use Old Farmhouse that's also three quid but you know you will get straight off. They let the coaches leave first then still waited around for cars. Would be better getting shut of cars of no more than a handful first, whilst waiting for the bigger vehicles to get ready for off.
The biggest laugh was seeing some of the fat bar stewards who follow the club trying to get into the Gents, not to mention the narrow turnstiles. I don't know how the fat lasses managed in the Ladies...we seem to have more than our fair share of lard buckets among the fans...
