Decent chippy The Main, fry with beef dripping, pies are from Rob Royd.

Standard fish is smaller than Tunstalls though so you would have to pay more to get the same size meal, though the chips were better.

Bakers chippy in Bolton on dearne square growing up, wouldn’t go anywhere else

£8 down in Fareham but massive portions and fish easily feeds 2 and the chips feed 3 or 4

I always head straight there when I go to Skeggy. I was there last week and couldn’t believe how cheap everything was around Skeggy in general. Maybe I’m just used to Leeds prices now but things only seem to have increased about 10p and it’d been years since I’d been to Skeggy. I guess all the competition keeps prices low.

£5.20 for fish n chips at Keelings on Racecommon Road. And all his stuff is gluten free, so this is the one for coeliacs.

Yeah, i was surprised at how cheap food and entertainment was. I was there Sunday to Thursday last week too. We went to the aquarium and the seal sanctuary. Both decent places for the kids and adults alike. We cleaned out loads of 2p machines of their prizes as well.

I’m from Wombwell and always go to summer lane through ease and habit, we used to regularly pop down to tunstalls about 20 years ago when we were still at Wombwell high high school for our dinner, think it was called Beards then?

I may give it another go, that or the Main then next time if they’re recommended.

    Beautiful fish as well .

Trenchers is decent. Went to Quayside last week and it was excellent. Small portions, but really high quality.

I Miss 'em too here, so much so I bought a 4 litre deep fat fryer in addition to the smaller one I already have. The large one has beef dripping-the ONLY way to fry F&C - from a bulk pack my friend brought me back from the UK via friend who owns a chippie, which is use exclusively for Fish 'n chips. I froze most of it and use it to top up.We stock up with dried mushy peas/malt vinegar whenever in UK as they have never heard of them in Italy. Under orders from my missus I have to fry them outside under the Loggia as otherwise it stinks the house out!!
Getting good Fish other than Mediterranean stuff was a problem but we now have a frozen seafood and fish centre nearby that sells, amongst other things, fantastic Icelandic cod. ALL Haddock and Cod in UK chippies is deep sea fish processed and frozen on the large ships as soon as it's caught (don't let anyone tell you otherwise) anyway. The smaller 'fresh' stuff from the offshore trawlers that go out for 2 or three days can have been in the hold for that long and chilled packed with ice before it even gets to the wjholesale markets so is not actually as fresh. I miss haddock though-
The fried fish vans around here are great but they sell squidAnchovies and assorted small fish coated in flour and deep fried. Fantastic but not the same. They also prefer to use salted cod (Baccala) rehydrated when they DO fry white fish. It is very expensive and a bit fibrous to eat and nowhere near as good as fresh cod.

Yeah about £4.00 I think for a fish special which is a small fish, chips, a sauce and a fishcake or a sausage - bargain as there’s plenty there for a meal. The place is spotless too.

I used to live in Cassada in Spain, the chippy there was as good as any I have had in the UK, fish was massive.
