Going to be discussed at a meeting this week- thoughts from our Scottish contingent? Money over tradition? Have visited Murrayfield and it is a fantastic stadium- not sure about this one though
If England started playing at Twickenham, I would be annoyed. I think every sports team should have their own ground, no sharing with other sports.
I also think a National stadium should be at the most central easiest location for all the fans, so in England that's in the Birmingham Leicester zone .... funnily enough called the "MIDLANDS" bit of a clue there innit. There was a rumour that Wembley was gonna be sold to some Yanks and a new National stadium built, I bet they do not consider a more centrally aligned location for the whole of the fan base.
Yeah that's true. Dean Hoyle wants to take control of the John Smiths Stadium. Huddersfield Town and Huddersfield Giants own 40% each and Kirkless Council the other 20%. If he can find a way to buy them both out and have the stadium just for football, I don't blame him for trying.
Agreed - don't see why we can't spread games around the very large stadiums that we've already got. Would solve the nonsense of two northern/midlands teams having to trek down to a suburb of London for every big match, and share a bit of the wealth around the country. That ship's sailed though, unfortunately.
I agree. Unfortunately the common sense, or lack of, in the FA would mean that a Man City v Liverpool FA cup final would be played at The Emirates.
Aren’t they selling Wembley, because the FA are strapped for ca$h? First bulldoze the original iconic Wembley, then build another in the ridiculously difficult to get to area, then allow Tottenham to call it home for a season, then sell it on despite it being funded by lottery grants, Govt, etc for a pittance of its original cost.... the esteem of the National Stadium has diminished considerably recently! I wouldn’t mind the games being shared around... but did enjoy Oakwell South visits. Not sure I’d be as happy playing a final at Hillsborough or bellend road...
Huddersfield is where rugby league was invented. Giants deserve to share their ground with Town. Plenty of room for both teams.
Always said national teams should play their games in Capital City, I presume cos Scotland Rugby team plays there is why football team are at Glasgow
Not really Wayne. Edinburgh is more of a rugby city but more to the point Rangers and Celtic run the Scottish game and run to their own advantage. Corrupt to the core. I doubt they will give up Hampden. Rangers end /Celtic end. Wtf is that all about?
Objectively, Murrayfield looks like a far better and more modern stadium than Hampden, with much better views (correct me if I'm wrong as I've never been to either). However, I'm a bit of a traditionalist on these matters, and I definitely believe that Wembley should always be our national stadium. Don't get me wrong, I think that England playing internationals around the country is a brilliant idea, but I'd be very miffed if Barnsley got to a major final and it wasn't played at Wembley (though the semis shouldn't be, but that's another matter). So how I'd feel as a Scottish fan about Murrayfield - probably wouldn't be too bothered if the national team went there provided they could fill it, but not sure how I'd feel about the cup final being played there. Realistically for smaller qualifying matches and minor friendlies, surely Tynecastle would make a lot more sense? In the capital, fully modernised with a 20,000 capacity. Far more likely to produce a cracking atmosphere against Lithuania than a half-full Murrayfield.
