I've just been looking up some Charlie Williams footage and found this interview (with a young Harry Gration). Might be of interest to some.
I wonder what our new coaching team would make of that if they watched it? Doesn't this archive stuff warm your cockles? Does me. Reminds me that our heritage is worth more than the massive attitudes elsewhere
Endearing memory of Charlie was when I was invited into the Presidents Lounge in the Cup against Ipswich. Charlie was at the bar with Jack Charlton. One of our fans asked Jack who was manager of the Republic of Ireland if he was running the rule over any Barnsley players. Charlie said " aye, he's 'eard that a Barnsley players Grandad sups Guinness." With that he broke into that trademark laugh and everybody round us joined in. A real character was Charlie. Sadly missed.
I too attended every game in that saga. We really toiled in the final game and if I remember correctly, Agana grabbed the only goal in a 1-0 win for the Blades.
Attended all those games. Didn't the home game gets postponed when part of the Brewery Stand roof blew off?
I can remember at the final whistle the scruffy dee dar captain coming over to the Ponty end giving it the the W@nkers gesture big time, the pig barsteward.
