Sorry tried to understand it but have given up the will to live! Short explanation from someone on here would be great Get it's got something to do with Euro's qualification and there's relegation and possibly promotion - that's it!
Instead of friendlies, you play "competitive" games against teams of a similar level and then something magical happens involving unicorns.
Basically trying to make every game something to play for. No friendlies. In a group of 3. Trying to make sht matches interesting
UEFA realised they were missing out on loads of revenue by allowing teams to play friendlies without them having a cut or opportunity to market it and get big name sponsors in. So they dreamt up this farce - which means the actual proper qualification for the euros is squeezed into a very short period in 2019, with another chance to qualify for those who don’t to the group winners of this. Or summat. Best thing is we still play friendlies anyway.
Nations League explained: How the format works - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42793057 Give this a watch though I'm not sure it's much clearer once you have.
It's a bit complex but overall I think it's a great idea. Competitive (ish) internationals against other top nations is surely a whole lot better than a friendly against Latvia with 17 substitutions at half time?
Im sure its all money related. But I have to say, I would rarther watch England games that were "competitive" as opposed to losing domestic football for one or two weeks so we can have a kick about with Jamaica etc.
I’m moaning abart it but I’m taking our young un to Wembley for the Spain game next week, was sort of hoping for Walsall to be postponed though I’d likely miss a Tuesday rearrangement anyway. Tend to miss midweeks due to work. Bought him tickets for his birthday (this coming Thursday) before the fixtures were out (sort of forgetting we don’t necessarily get internationals off anymore...). I’m not sure if he’ll be more pleased we’re off back to Wembley or narked he’s missing a home game. Going to the Harry Potter thing at Watford on the Sunday should get me away with it though!
If you are in London take him to kings cross for the Harry Potter shop and platform 9.75. Its in the main concourse and if he likes Harry Potter....
Been in there, fair few times. Got him one of the (very) expensive wands from in there. Haven’t taken him to the attraction at Watford before though. This will be his fifth Wembley trip at the grand age of eleven (two with Barnsley, this will be the third England).
