They mass order and therefore get them cheaper and can sell cheaper if the original demand drops. I’m not sticking up for club at all just trying to put in perspective as only club sells our merchandise so I assume they have based stock on previous seasons. I don’t know why it isn’t easy to re order more stock but maybe it isn’t all clubs fault .
I dont know. Im not bashing the club either it just seems weird that a lot of fans make all the effort for nothing.
I'd like them to have a pre-order system. They'd have a decent idea of numbers to order based on that.
Can't blame the shop staff. However selling out of away shirts in larger adult sizes in 5 days, and home shirts in little longer than that, is completely ridiculous. That's £90 the club won't be seeing. I was told to keep an eye on the website, probably in stock at end of September- when the weathers cooling - D'oh!!!
But the problem is they always **** up and sell out because they dont order enough then the next year they order stock based on last seasons sales figures which were artificially low due to the stock issue and its a vicious circle that goes round and round. What they should do is an ounce of market research. Every time a supporter enquires about shirts and is turned away that should be logged as an enquiry. It's the only way to get even a semi accurate measure of the demand. The process of ordering 10 shirts, selling all ten, turning away 500 people and then ordering 10 again for next year because we only sold 10 is frankly stupid and yet it seems to be what we've done for the best part of a decade.
That would be a brilliant idea. Saturday 8th of June next year they should release the new home kit and training gear and they could have a twelve hours of activites day 9 until 9. Box office can be open 9-12 (longer if queue is still large) for people to renew or purchase a season pass. Club shop could be open normal 9-5 retail hours to sell all the new stuff. Club could use your idea to help matters. People in the build up if they wanted should be able to order well in advance and pay in full, so on the day they can turn up with a order number and get their order within minutes. Sure we could sort getting a fair down to sort rides and attractions. All the home game family stand ideas such as meeting creatures and playing computer games can be available for all. Move the beer festival in a couple of weeks to that June weekend and sell the stuff from midday until 9/10 at night. Set up a stage in the car park and hire some local bands to fill the 9 or so hours from a midday start. Folks would swarm down for the Live In Barnsley feel. Club should piss taking hundred thousand pounds that day.
No our open day is just a open morning that finishes around 1 pm that is heavily for our young fans with players to meet or watch them train. All that can still happen for the release of the away kit at the end of July, so it still has a selling point to go to the ground for a bit. This would have Oakwell open for business one way or another for 12 hours. Half a day with activites for fans of all ages. June is the perfect month because it's warm and stays light until late. As long as they had adequate levels of stock, things would be flying off the shelves. People can turn up early, sort a season pass, buy the new shirt, take their kids around the stalls, listen to some good live music and we can get some local retailers in to sort food out. Local music days and food and drink festivals are always rammed. If we combined the two on the release of our new clothing line, in the off season, the tills would make a fortune. Not sure what sales would be but would think 1000 adult home shirts at 45 quid would be doable. That's 4,500 made on one item. Thousands down for 10 or so hours drinking at 3.50 approx a pint, plus food, plus parking etc. We'd milk it.
The problem is we can't do pre-orders on shirts because nobody knows what they look like because the new design has to be a huge secret and nobody can see the slightest thing on it until release day. Why not get some options in the programme towards the end of the season and let supporters vote on the design like other clubs do?
Sportsdirect in tarn have more Liverpool shirts behind the till than Oakwell has Barnsley shirts in one entire season Iley out
Without being contrary, do people actually decide to buy a new kit/shirt only after they've seen the design?
Possibly not but then people that can't financially afford both will chose either the home shirt or the away shirt depending on which design they prefer (myself included)
