Am I correct in thinking that this stage of the checkatrade trophy is group stage like the group stages in the Euro's or the World cup.... if so then why was the commentator banging on about it going to penalty's.... have I missed something somewhere.
Not quite. It's still a drawn game for which you get 1 point, but the winner of the shoot out gets another point.
The whole thing is dreamt up by drug addled loons. Some teams have got to field their under 23 team while others are fined if they do. It's 'kin madness.
The latest madness is if player is suspended he can't play but it doesn't count towards ban. ' - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45410311
Fair point although its good experience for our youngsters/reserves to play in a 'meaningful' mans game .
I think the penalties thing is a good idea. It adds a bit of excitement. Got to be better than two lower league teams playing out a draw in front of a smattering of fans.
