Brilliant films of which he was the absolute perfect fit.
Does that mean another clap in the 82nd minute that no one knows about?

Cracking films and someone who always came across as one of the worlds nice guys. However the OP is incorrect, BR actually portrayed 'The Bandit' in the films. Smokey was the nickname given to the police.

I think you will find Burt was the Bandit and the real star of the film was Jackie Gleason who was the Smokey.
RIP Burt a real star of films.

RIP Burt old lad, used to like his films. Was only reading in the paper the other week how his career had taken off again, with a critically acclaimed tv series with the offer of a couple of fiilms on the back of it.

Star prize to CT for spotting the deliberate mistake. The cop and his son Junior creased me when
    they appeared in the film.

Your right, I googled the film and his name and it pulled up the video. But reading IMDB he was offered the part but turned it down deciding to make Smokey and the Bandit instead.

He also turned down the parts of han solo and John McClane, just think how different Stars Wars And Die Hard could have been. Hard to imagine him playing any of those characters
