It appears a can of worms has been opened this week, as it appears that clubs with iFollow can broadcast their games LIVE this Saturday afternoon, during the previously sacrosanct 3pm kick off on Saturdays time slot!! The Accrington Chairman, Andy Holt, is all over Twitter alleging the change was brought in without discussion by the EFL clubs. What do we all think to this?
The club* gets 80% and the EFL get the rest. *Whose iFollow the match is bought through, so for Accrington v Burton this weekend any that watch have to buy it through Burton as Accrington don't have iFollow. So where Burton fans could be paying £20 to Accrington on Saturday, they'll now be paying Burton £8 and the EFL £2 if they choose to stream it instead.
Just been trying to find details on Twitter, the best I can see is Home club 40%, Away Club 30% the Balance to EFL. Presume this is split if both clubs with iFollow.
Don't think that's why he's bitching, it is more that his club may not get as many floating supporters from nearby Premier/Championship clubs who may have given Stanley a try while their club's are not playing, together with the possible reduction in away fans, won't matter so much this week with it being Burton, but we are due to play them on the International Break in November, so could impact on our support. Also he is worried about the consequences further down the road, in that it may become the norm in future, not just on International breaks.
Think its worth a trial, there's no comparison to watching it live so for me those that can get there will always go, the ones who aren't able to for one reason or another like health or distance will get chance to watch. As long as its banned from places like pubs I say give it a go and then look if it affects attendances. Any extra money to the club is just that.
U Yeah you will be able to mate. I was in Lanzarote last week and purchased the Gillingham game using the iFollow site (i.e. log on through the official site as per normal).
That’s ok for exiles but it can only depress gate figures and clubs incomes. If you are not a ST holder the option is there to either pay £10 for ifollow or £20plus to go to the game. If it’s a wet Saturday afternoon and/or you have a tight budget it’s a no brainer
If it did come in that clubs could broadcast Saturday 3pm games as standard, it may force clubs to reduce their ticket prices. Although saying that, once you have taken off stewarding costs etc, the club may end up making more profit per viewer online than they would get from fans through the turnstiles...
The proportion of income would shift from gate receipts to streaming revenue but overall income would go down. The impact of families watching a streamed game together rather than each buying a ticket would make matters even worse. I suspect efl clubs will jump on this pretty soon
Looks as though the option for a match pass has been removed for Saturday . Also Coventry next week is not available But click on the next Tuesday night game and It allows you to buy a match pass
I'm up in Fife, so with definitely be watching it. Good news for me. Best fish and chips in Scotland too. Anstruther Fish Bar...
I've been a lifelong red but since I moved to Glasgow it's been harder to get to games. If this was available I would be happy to pay the same as a proper season ticket and extra for cup games. Would love it
