Stuart Rimmer came as a heavy goal scorer but only scored 1 goal as far as I can remember. Also that lad from Notts County who's name escapes me. Think he may have scored on his debut and that was that
Mark Stallard. I don't think I saw his only Barnsley goal. I did Stuart Rimmer's only goal - he went on to have a decent career at Chester - and about 310 one-on-ones vs the goalkeeper that he missed in his short Barnsley career.
Ah Stallard! That's the one. Yeah, Rimmer had been at Chester before he came to us, and went back there. They seemed the right fit for him during his career. I think we were hoping he was going to be another David Currie, but it wasn't to be. According to wiki, both scored 1 in 15 for us.
Great guy Barry. I used to work with his daughter back in the early 80's. Glad he still is able to do his work at the club. After Rimmo's passing we need him.
` 1950/51 season, starting with Hull City away where he scored a brace, a feat he was to repeat in the next two games. The seventh game was home to Luton whom we beat 6-1 with Cec scoring five of the six.
Is this a look into the future? if so I am going for that goal scoring machine Akinfenwa when he signs for the Reds after scoring more than 17 goals this season!
Five yes. More no. Think there are three or four players who scored five. Think Abe Blight’s one of them and McCormack another. Can’t remember the other(s) but then I’m away and have been to the pub so not surprising. As ever, await confirmation from Big Lil.
Blight once scored 4 against Accrington Stanley in 1933/4. Unfortunately, the otherwise informative Official History book doesn't seem to list the most goals scored by an individual in one match. In remarking on McCormack's feat it did suggest that another three had also scored 5. I would have to trawl the book. I may be away some time!
