I have two factor enabled anywhere it’s available, but I feel like it’s only just become ‘user friendly’ and widely accepted. Apple could definitely have done it in a way that nobody would have a problem with, though.

 

People who buy new phones every year are utter mugs. It used to be that the difference between phone generations was huge, now it's tiny. They have to hype up completely nondescript new "features" that offer very little practical benefit or improvement and yet people happily fork out the best part of a grand every year or so. It's madness.

It's entirely fitting that the new model is the iPhone "excess"

 

Lat time I wanted an upgrade, the only thing the salesperson could say about the iPhone 8 was that I could get better selfies... I said have you seen my face?!? I’d rather they be blurred. As for the x she said I could open it with my face and send emojis that moved... I replied why and why? If I’m holding the phone, fingerprint access is good enough. And I use about 4 emojis, which don’t need to move. So got the ancient iPhone 7 on a cracking contract...

 

Disagree all apple products are top notch,well made and nothing ever goes wrong with them,sorry but nobody can touch em in my opinion.
Samsung are not a patch on them,granted they are well expensive though.

Got to agree with the earlier poster with this Apple hype.

They are restrictive in terms of what you can do with it and they have been forced to admit that they intentionally slow people's phones down... "to preserve battery life" hahaha .

...and people pay through the nose for it!

 

To run at full speed the phone requires x amount of power. Over time ‘all’ batteries deteriorate.
Where Apple fooked up, is without telling the customer, they built in some software to the iOS of iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and SE ‘s, that automatically slowed down the cpu when the battery was less than 80% efficient. This was to prevent freezing or unexpected shutdown/reboots.
As a result of this being made public, Apple now offer £25 battery swaps up until the end of this year.
You can also disable this throttling software in the phone settings.
I’m running a 2 year old iPhone 7 and it’s battery health is showing 88% efficient. Even though it’s not currently effected, I’m still going to get the battery swapped at end of November. Why wouldn’t you at £25. Daughters iPhone 6 (4 year old hand me down), batteries also going to get swapped.
The missus and son, both use android. Sons on his 6th android in 3 years. Broken / faulty. Lastest was a Nexus 5X. First 5X went into the un-fixable boot loop just out of warranty. Got it replaced under my bank mobile insurance, but he killed that a few week back, dropping it in a sink of water. Insurance can’t replace like for like, so they’ve sent him an Xperia Z5 instead.
Not sure what you mean by restrictive, you don’t need to buy your music from iTunes and I wouldn’t want to install apps from unknown sources. Any app or music purchases, I only need to buy once as they can be installed on both daughters iPhones or iPads under family sharing (max 10 devices). But then who buys music these days
Comparing prices, your latest Samsung Galaxy S9 rocks up with a RRP £739. Not that far from the not yet released iPhone XR (RRP £749). Prices on high end handsets aren’t as far away as they used to be. The missus has an android One Plus 3 and could do with an upgrade. But the latest One Plus 6 is £519 (128gb).
You also have to consider trade-in or resale values. Android phones are worth buttons after 12 month. I have a box full of dead / old androids that’s not even worth selling (Also contains an iPhone 3GS worth nowt).
My current iPhone 7 are still going for £250-£300 on ebay. Think it cost me £725 in Oct 2016 which I bought on 0% finance from Apple and stuck in a £11 a month SIM.
The new iPhones, although look nice, there’s nothing tempting enough for me to upgrade from my iphone 7. Especially after a £25 battery replacement.
Then again, I wouldn’t even call them phones any more. Probably talk less that 30 mins a month on mine. It does everything I used to use my laptop / computer for, which I haven’t had to go to the expense of replacing in the last 8+ years.
