I expected us to keep the team together who were proving a handful for everyone at the start of the season. A real chance of stamping our authority on the division has been lost. We needed additions to the squad, i.e. another quality striker as back up, not swapping the chief Gegenpresser for an injured kid with a lot to prove. A poor end to the transfer window (again!) has left us with a paper thin squad quality wise, who can't handle any injuries.

As a man of a certain age I haven't seen pre-menstrual histrionics thankfully for quite a while . We lost the match to an average team , I'm all for the constructive criticism . Losing is **** and philosophical understanding of losses is flawed . Losing is **** .

We started the season far, far better than I thought this squad was capable. I was having nightmares about us playing the gegenpress with Isgrove, Hedges, Knamullner, Mallan and Moncur. I thought everyone had gone loop the loop. Sounded like footballing suicide to me.

But when the season started we didn't play with wingers, we played with two great big units in Potts and Thiam flanking two forwards prepared to run their blood to water, backed up by a rejuvenated Mowatt and a good acquisition in Dougall. It helped that we played two teams who are currently in the bottom 4 in our first couple of games to get momentum going, and Rochdale who, for reasons best known to themselves, decided to play football in their own half against the onslaught described above.

It didn't always work, as we saw against Wimbledon. Get players behind the ball, keep it tight and Thiam and Potts aren't nearly as effective. At full pace, they're like a couple of battering rams, from a standing start the acceleration and the skill isn't quite there. But mostly, it looked like we could bulldozer teams.

Then we sold Bradshaw, and if you take one cog out of that gegenpress machine, it doesn't function nearly as well.

We haven't seen his replacement yet. It may be that Woodrow is a better player than Bradshaw, but that doesn't necessarily mean we'll have a better team. I'm hoping he can run all day and will never stop hassling defenders. It doesn't matter all that much if he's not a great goalscorer if he does that, because we have enough in the rest of the team to beat the majority of opponents in this league if we get that high intensity pressing back to as good as it was when Bradhaw was here.
