...apart from the result I enjoyed the game today and thought there was plenty of quality on display and plenty of pace shown by both sides with Coventry quick on the break like Barnsley have been. Mike Bahre oozed class and once we get some accurate shooting boots on we will give someone a pasting. Criticism of Brown is fair inasmuch as he wasted three great chances but I disagree that it proves he is not ready for 1st team football. He showed he can make space and get into scoring positions. He just lacked composure when it mattered which is something that only comes with experience. Calling it "pathetic" is ...err...well ...pathetic. Also, saying we, as a team, were woeful and then highlighting the fact we missed relatively easy goal scoring opportunities from great moves is surely contradictory. No doubt though that the next few weeks training needs to (probably will) focus on decision making on the final ball and finishing. You reds!!
I'm not going to go too overboard - particularly if we can bounce back with a couple of good performances. One bad result in ten is passable/to be expected. Too many players had off or less good days at the same time for mine today. However, three things do merit comment to my mind:- 1) Stop pissing about with it at the back - we aren't and will never be Pep's Man City. 2) We miss Potts and with three players like Potts, Woodrow and Hedges missing we can't play the 4-4-2 that suits us best and at the same time we can't really field a bench with many attacking options. 3) And worst of the lot - our crossing, set pieces and corners are truly, truly, shockingly abysmal - if there's one thing that really needs sorting it's this.
Stendel made a point of mentioning our poor delivery of corners in his post match presser in fact according to the bbc stats for our 8 league games we have had 65 corners in total and to my knowledge haven’t scored from any.
We got a pen from one corner and the goal last Saturday was from a short corner and we scored from the cross. But that said we are much worse from corners than when Conor was taking them and aiming at Mawson and the snake
