I could make a case for him getting MOTM against Oxford, he was in my opinion our most influential player that afternoon. Very similar performance at Rochdale too. But I understand why Thiam and of course Moore got the votes in those games. But as you rightly point out regards Bähre, fans tend to be swayed by something new. It's why Dougall has had lots of votes, when he's been no better, no more instrumental so far than Potts. I'd have Moore, Mowatt and Pinnock top three, so like I say, the voting is working in the main. But I still find it bizarre that Potts is so low down, regardless of the accepted reasoning you've stated and I've appreciated. It says more about the voters than it does the system perhaps. Good discussion though. And in my opinion, biased though I probably am, I've been impressed with near-enough all of those who've appeared so far and feel they'll only get better as we go along also. So it's all good. We've a few players yet to figure too, a couple of them I'd probably have as regular starters when fit. Happy days.
Couldn't agree more. Think Potts has been top 5 without a doubt. I actually reckon he'll get more votes next time he plays (regardless of the discussion here) due to people (myself included) realising what he brings when he's not in the team. Apologies if I came off as at all combative. I've been losing patience with some of the trolling on here recently, and losing patience with the site as a whole, I suppose.
2 defenders 2 midfielders and a forward in the top 5 so looks to be working across the board. I’d say it’s probably hard for keepers but don’t know how to weight it to give them more of a chance.
I'm a big fan of Potts, but I haven't voted for him yet. I only vote for games I've witnessed, so that's home games only, and so far although Potts has been solid, he's been outshone in each game by Dougall or Pinnock or somebody else. Early days yet though and I reckon Potts will start to pick up a few votes when he comes back from injury.
I'm thinking the same thing. Over recent weeks he has received so many plaudits with many agreeing that he is the first name on our team sheet yet there are only two players ranking lower. Bizarre.
The scoring system obviously has flaws, Potts is in most of our top five players of the season so far, but unless we change it to giving all the team a mark out of ten for each game I’m not sure how else to combat that. I said at the start that a bunch of man of the match awards wouldnt necessarily lead to the right person getting player of the season by getting most points, as by their nature points systems will benefit some and detriment others as you can never cover everything. Being consistent and in the top three or four week in week out might make you player of the season if others blow hot and cold, you might not get loads of points in this system but you could be vital. I think Potts fits that bill. As it is the leader is probably fair, 6 in 8 is a great return for Kieffer, but there aren’t 12 better players than Potts for us. His value has been highlighted by how much we’ve missed him. I’d only rate moore, Dougall and maybe Pinnock in front of him so far for a player of the season. But he’s not miles behind, I think he’s vital for us. But there’s a few having good seasons up to now, including the full backs which has been a pleasant surprise to me.
No points for Woodrow yet and more surprisingly given some of the other names on the list none for Jackson.
