Someone complained at Huddersfield and they are on about doing something about it.....

    https://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/huddersfield-town-say-foul-abusive-15166963

When we have views blocked with standing, IRA chants and smoking in the toilets taking place with nothing done about it, I don't see us bringing in similar. Racism, sexism and homophobic language should never be tolerated. But if you go to the football you should expect without complaining that you will hear a couple of F bombs from people letting off steam there, instead of towards loved ones at home.

I think with the swearing it depends on the context think everyone gets annoyed at refs and also players missing sitters etc so we use the odd expletive now and again but when it is every other word it's get annoying and offensive

I’m with you on dealing with far worse behaviour and inciting language first and foremost .
Racism and intolerance and violence is far up the list imo to be stamped out.
If bad language could be stamped out jointly with the above then all well and good .
I cringe at bad language especially when the perpetrators use it as a second language but we must be careful at zero tolerance as I’ve seen people swear on the spur of the moment incident but have apologised straight away .
Football is emotional and can cause us to say something out of character but as you say the normality of foul language needs to be curbed

That's it. No need for ever dropping a C bomb, but the occasional F bomb should be expected as long as it's not to Roy Chubby Brown level.

Eventually, football well the great unwashed, will become that sanitised at the upper echolons of the game it will start self imploding.

    Cant wait.

"It's fine because it's always happened" isn't a persuasive argument. If football hadn't existed and was invented tomorrow people would rightfully go barmy at the fact that grown men swear and yell abusive language at an event attended by a great number of kids. What example does it set for a kid to see a man verbally abuse someone (often in a fairly violent manner) just because he doesn't agree with his actions in something which, at the end of the day, is just a game?

I'm by no means a prude and have a mouth like a sailor when talking to my mates but I would have no complaints if action was taken over excessive swearing at matches

What's wrong with no surrender to the IRA?

If, after 20 years of peace, you don't know the answer to that, then you need to go to a quiet place and reflect on what could possibly be wrong with a singing a song glorifying a sectarian/religious conflict that ran for the best part of a century.

We had the reverse the last couple of years. We had two small kids (9 and 6 or something?) behind us who were swearing like a bunch of sailors. That's not o.k.

Sensible woman. Whether your kid hears you swearing at Oakwell or at home makes no difference. ;)

I wonder if they would act if someone reported a player for foul and abusive language. They are just as guilty of swearing as a supporter in the stands.

I didnt suggest i condoned it.

I did however suggest that upper flight football is becoming sanitised.

Dont stand. Dont swear. Dont cheer excessivley etc

I suspect not to offend the ears of our overseas veiwing freinds..

Which is ironic given one of the overhyped selling points of english football is the atmospheres in the ground.

Which is dying in a lot of grounds.

    Baring the odd occasion.

The thing is theres worse on tv the internet computer games music than at games these days.

Players on the pitch *should* be subject to the same laws as the rest of us.

I attended oakwell during the 70s as a kid and was often surrounded by people using foul and abusive language. I did not become much of a swearer in real life though. My parents were not swearers either but i can clearly remember my mild-mannered father shoving his 2 fingers in the air towards the cardiff end when we had equalised ( not sure but i think it was a Banks screamer to make it 3-3) and shouting "have that you *******"

Don’t stand because there might be someone less able or young children behind you is that too much to ask?
It’s the powers that be dictated that as i have no choice atm where I sit so I’d someone stands up that’s been done to death.
Don’t swear is that too much to ask ?
Nobody’s condemning the odd slip or passionate outburst but some people’s language is beyond a joke in children’s vicinity and even miners when I were young pulled fans up for swearing at games .
    Don’t cheer excessively?
New one on me, sorry can’t answer have never come across that restriction from anybody whilst I’ve watched reds 53 years

Isn't the point of this thread to say that we wouldn't do what Huddersfield have done?

If so then I must be going to the wrong ground every other week because the one I go to has a message about foul and abusive language before EVERY game and we had a text line to report bad language six years ago
