Agreed, just the same of the rest of the rags. Many years ago they were relevant as a news service, nowadays they are all peddlers of titivation and sensation based around crap television shows and the pathetic wannabees on them. I wonder why anybody even buys them anymore
The article in question: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/breaking-barnsley-vs-burton-postponed-13290249 I dont agree that it "focuses on grieving people being comforted next to a dying loved one" It shows the franticness of the whole situation.
Bit OTT. The image is no different from anything you'd usually see in a news report of this kind. You can't identify the people involved from that picture either. Standard reporting and image use. Totally understand why he told you to get f*cked off tbh. Especially at this time on a Saturday afternoon.
I agree. It's not "focusing" on the group of whom we assume are "grieving people" and we don't know what is going on. I don't see anything offensive about the reporting....
I'm not in the habit of defending the media but I don't see a lot wrong with the article or the photos.
Personally, I find a couple the photos intrusive. I wouldn't want to be photographed while being medically treated, or lying on a stretcher, or if I was showing concern and it was a friend/family member who was being treated. I understand these photos are taken and published, but I don't particularly like that.
I never have regretted boycotting the mirror. After my 55th birthday. I do sometimes find shaving in the shower a bit hit and miss. Yet it's better than gawping at what I now am.
I hope this passes the DB3K & SuperTyke approval test. I think it was a good idea to show the kids CPR and help them understand what had been happening.
Excellent way to explain it. I can't believe the coincidence of this happening on the day they campaign for CPR training and awareness.
Why would that not pass my approval test? I have not criticised a single thing that the club have done today
And can I just clarify that the article that exists now on the mirror site has been changed from what was there originally. Now the intrusive (good word Jay) images are just part of many included, previously the only images they used were intrusive and in my opinion the editor didn't give a toss about the people involved which is what I was trying to get at. They had options to use images of the air ambulance which most other news outlets used but instead wanted the most gawping intrusive image they could find. Shock and awe to sell papers. I apologise if anyone thinks I got it wrong, I probably did. For what its worth I was polite to the sports editor and he was extremely rude and aggressive 'i'll show any photo I want and I don't need a reason'. All I'd asked is if they would consider changing from one showing people in clear emotional distress to a less offensive image of the air ambulance like other sites had done.
