There were quite a few 'out of character' posts on here, last night which resulted in a few tit for tat squabbles and at least one very good poster calling it a day on here. Shall we assume that the abandonment of the match allowed people to squeeze an extra 3-4 pints into their normal Matchday routine and also killed off the usual post match conversations on here regarding the game. I'm sure we all collectively hope that our fellow Red makes a full recovery whilst in the hands of the experts, and that really is all that needs to be carried forward from yesterday, hope for Steve. Today's a new day folks. So, please, those involved in angry posts, yesterday, start afresh today. Don't kill this board.
Bunch o Snowflakes A term used to characterize the young adults of the 2010s as being more prone to taking offence and less resilient than previous generations, or as being too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own.
I have to say last night's posts were somewhat troublesome. I got in from local around 10, had quick shufty on here and retired to mi pit. FFS it took me ages to drop off I was laughing so much...
People are so permanently offended these days. They don’t try to look at the meaning of people’s words if they are not expressed in the clearest way. The problem with being permanently offended is that if someone is genuinely offensive they do t recognise the difference.
Well speaking as the first person to respond to JP’s post I must say that at 55 I’m flattered to be called a snowflake!
Anyone can be a snowflake. I am more vulnerable on some days than others. Everyone has their up and down days. I didn’t comment yesterday as it wasn’t my place, or I didn’t have an opinion. Emotionally, I was touched by the overall sentiment of everyone. If not a little surprised by the aggression shown to each other in some of the posts. People just appeared to have different ways of coping with the traumatic events of the day and clashed. Everyone on here wishes the best for Steve. Collectively, we wanted the best for him. It appears that happened and for that, I and everyone here are very thankful.
So who was the “snowflake”. Someone offended that it had cost him “£450” and then complained about the length of time it took for the helicopter to arrive or someone with first hand professional experience of dealing with medical emergencies pointing out that it was actually a pretty swift response bearing in mind the process required to be taken under the extreme pressure of having a life to save, with the added pressure of having 11,000 people watching?
That wasn’t the point he was making. You know it and I know it. He was commenting on cut backs to the emergency services causing issues which they have. He didn’t particularly express it well but it’s clear that’s what he meant.
Kind of why I highlighted the coming of age of the snowlake generation. Add to them the wave of people determined to be offended either on their own part or on behalf of their imagined oppressed and the ability to intelligently debate any topic is lost. Me, I'm offended by a society so enveloped in attention seeking social media its vanishing up its own support group.
