I remember being stopped with two cans of pop when I was about 8 years old, so 1990 ish. Used to go with my t'old Grandad, and he went mad with the stewards, although it was mainly because he hated paying £5 each for me and him(juvenile and OAP price).

"FIVE BLOODY QUID" he was ranting, "I COULD BUY THE WHOLE BLOODY CLUB FOR £5 AT ONE TIME", he continued. "FIVE QUID AND YOU WON'T EVEN LET ME TAKE IN CANS OF POP, YOU ROBBING BUGGERS!" as 8 year old Cod wanted a hole in the ground to open up to crawl into!

Tell you what though, I'm glad he died when he did, because having to pay today's prices would have killed him! Dun't half miss him though...

Confiscated my plastic water bottle at Wigan .That win before Wembley.
Red hot day needed to maintain hydration but got water confiscated there.
    Don't understand that one.

Probably because it had a plastic lid, at one point they made a point on taking off plastic lids

It's more to do with making you buy gold-plated drinks in the ground.

I'm sure the actual rules say any drinks container taken into the ground must be able to decant the liquid when thrown, although I may be misremembering as a can would do this once opened.

On a slightly related subject though, why is it that it is illegal to smoke in a football ground(with it being a public place), but Chelsea manager Sarri is allowed to smoke on the touchline? Surely it's classed as a public place, but it's also a place of work...

Its not illegal to smoke in a football stadium. Its against club regulations (on instruction from the league) but that doesn't make it illegal.
Sarri doesn't light it, he just puts it in his mouth which technically gets him round the rules but makes him look like a dirty tramp imo

I thought it was illegal to smoke in a public space, and because a stadium had a roof and contained a high concentration of people it made a stadium illegal too? Probably taking **** though...

When you go to the hospital you are not supposed to smoke in the grounds but many people do. They do because it's not illegal. It is only a criminal offence to smoke inside the hospital buildings.

More to the point then why on earth is he pretending to smoke a damp cigarette? Is he twelve years old? Has he got a bottle of twenty twenty hidden in his tracksuit too?
