Can remember that, used to go swimming and then get chip butty from the cafe while waiting for the 366/7 up staincross
Would that be Don Miller's bread/sarnie shop on the edge of the photo? Noted on the front most bus, right side, the destination of Barrow Colliery, my late Father's first workplace. I guess the buses would have stopped running there when it closed in '85?
Forgive my ignorance as I've not been around for that long. But is that Midland St before they built the bus station?
Yes mate, I'm guessing 1975 ish going by the 'M' reg bus. There were 20+ bus stands behind the shops as there are today, not sure if the old "island" had been removed by then.
396 was Barnsley to Kexborough via Mapplewell. 392 was Barnsley to Kexborough via Barugh Green. Then there was the 235 Huddersfield bus, Barnsley via Mapp and Kex. Midland Street was usually the drop off.
I think it's later than that. Although there's an M Reg in the foreground, there's a much newer single-decker in the background. Also they've all got the '3' prefix. As W1ZZ says, both the 396 and 392 went to Kexborough. But prior to that they were just called the 96 and the 92 and I think the change came after 75.
Saw that picture on Twitter earlier. Several people remembering the 2p bus fare I remember paying that from Wombwell into Tarn in the late 70s. Some great flares on display so I’m going for 1977 or 78 for that pic
Could get to Sheffield and back from Kek for 8p. 2p to Tarn, 2p to Sheff, 2p back to Tarn, 2p home. 8p!!!!! Yer could find that darnbackersofa.
Used to catch 14 to go train spotting at Donny it terminated right outside train station where the car park is now.
