It’s like perpetual motion isn’t it, they keep repeating it 5 tines daily.

The bit that pisses me off is they attack Corbyn and labour but fail to tell us what the actual government would or should do. I see it on Facebook idiots sharing stuff with no voice, just attacks all the time

To be fair, if you ventured into the realms of twitter in the last few years, the labour supporting twitterati is pretty menacing these days and are so full of angst. I used to pick up quite a lot of interesting news from links in twitter but its become increasingly bitter and angry and so many people seem equally content with peddling "fake news" and attacking anyone who doesn't belong in their bubble.

2018 is a grim version of the world.

Rammell and Saville, one of only 2 pairs of rhyming strikers I can think of. The other being Robson and Hobson back in the 60s, I think. Any more?

My daughter(21) and her boyfriend(23) have just purchased their first house .She went to university and now has a full time job along with him . They've simply worked hard and saved their money for a deposit . It's not rocket science , some people need to take a bit more responsibility for their finances, work a bit harder ,save a bit more and stop blaming the government for their own inadequacies .

I love people thinking they are cleverer than an Oxbridge graduate with a first. Most amusing.

Don’t be a racist people won’t call you one. Don’t be a hypocrite and people won’t call you one. You are a white migrant that hates and criticise migrants of colour. You come on here to troll and be abusive to fill up an empty corner of your sad meaningless life. I feel sorry for you. I would appreciate it if you didn’t drag me into your pathetic world you sad old lovely person. Now I don’t work in economics I find I have little interest in it certainly not discussing it with some little englander on the internet. You dragged me into this discussion by personalising as you always do so **** off **** off and **** off again.

    Cheers.

So because your daughter is doing ok everyone else is just lazy?

Does she not have crippling student debt then? How’s that? If she’s 21 she can’t have been saving for long, she’s only just graduated, surely?

Bloody typical ‘I’m alright jack’ attitude.

I work bloody hard, I’ve got a house and mortgage. But I don’t have any prospect of helping my kids through uni or onto the housing ladder. (They’re currently only primary school age). I fear they have little prospect of a prosperous future no matter how intelligent and hard working they are.

But your daughter saving up for ten minutes means it’s ok. Nice one.

My daughter left home when she became pregnant with her first child at age 22. She rented with her partner and quickly established a successful business. Her partner too has gone from strength to strength. Both worked hard over the last 6 years and have now bought their first home. They now have another addition to the family. Neither went on to further education. They have not received any money from us either as neither of us received any money from our parents. My daughter has however taken a few loans of her grandad which she has always repaid.
Our son too (20) is now earning 29k a year. He has no formal qualifications. He is currently saving to buy a house or flat.
We have never been "well-off", indeed we have lived from hand-to-mouth many times over the years. I know many youngster's struggle to get on the housing market but evidently others find a way. This is not just a British issue either. The cost of private housing has rocketed all over the developed world regardless of which political party is in charge. Moscow apparently is the most expensive city in the world to live in. Who'd have thought that 20 years ago? I believe Italian children live at home the longest before leaving the "nest". They stay because they can't afford to get a mortgage.
So i would argue it's wrong to generalise and state everyone is hard done to because that's simply not the case.

I love to read these posts that accentuate the positive, and place emphasis on the efforts of the individual.

And don't whinge about how it's the fault of the state for not providing for them.

Each administration is no better than the next, no matter what be their motivation. Best not to wait for a helping hand from anyone.

    Good luck to your daughter.

Not half as amusing as when someone doesn't get the smiley emoji at the end.
    I blame the education system.

Good luck to your kids indeed. I think that the fact that neither of them went on to further education is an interesting point, as nowadays it seems that in many cases (although not all) a university degree does not do a huge amount to increase employment prospects, but does incur huge debts at a very early age. Certainly when the time comes I'll be telling my daughter to think very carefully about whether she goes to university immediately after school or waits a bit before deciding what she wants to do there, as it's a choice that really can't be taken lightly any more. The financial implications of getting it wrong are just too great.

As for Moscow - that's actually a bit of a fallacy. The ruble has lost about 40% against the pound since 2008, meaning that while property is still expensive, it's definitely not comparable with London, which ten years ago it definitely was. Putting a roof over your head there (as in St Petersburg) is your main expense, but once you've done that it's actually an extremely reasonable city to live in. Public transport, taxis, telecommunication and utility bills are a fraction of what they cost in the UK, and food is comparable. While in 2008 there were only either ridiculously expensive restaurants or crappy little cafés, there are now loads of seriously excellent mid-priced eateries. You can get an excellent meal these days with a pint of local craft ale or a glass of wine for around fifteen quid tops.

Obviously when the average local salary is around £600 a month it's still expensive for many, but as many people acquired their apartments for free when the Soviet Union collapsed, if you've not got a mortgage and don't need to rent you can live on this without too much bother . And even on a modest European level income, you can have a very fine lifestyle compared with London or Paris.

The massive student debt thing is a bit of a myth. It’s based on future income. Earn under £25,725 and you don’t repay anything. Above that and it’s 9% of the above amount.

If you end up with a earning £35K then your only repaying £900 a year.

It’s written off after 30 years and doesn’t count on any credit scores.

That's just for tuition fees though. Most students end up having to borrow just to meet living costs, or at least having to get a part time job. Nothing wrong with that mind, I worked part time when at uni but then I only had 9 hours of contact time a week. Anyone doing medicine or architecture would undoubtedly struggle to find the time.
