Anybody found a supplier who isn't completely useless? I've been with virgin for years & have fibre optic. It is currently running at less than a meg of download speed. They can **** off for a start. Their service is utter ******. I have little faith in BT, but would rather go to them than the lovely person Branson. Thankfully my contract with them is up.
I’ve got mine with sky never had a problem and was good price also plus net was good when I had them only left after price went up
I left BT in July as they put their prices up... i've gone for unlimited fibre for 30 quid a month including line rental. I didnt want to be tied in long term so it's a monthly contract with prices fixed for first year. So far so good.
I've not had a landline for 2 years. I use mobile broadband on the 3 network and get about 20Mb/s max speed although it varies a lot. It costs £20 per month, 12 month contract. Wouldn't suit everyone though as it depends on coverage in your area, and it's limited to 40G per month. It wouldn't be enough for watching lots of movies etc but it's fine for general surfing, emails etc.
Ours was the same with virgin, every night from 6pm to after 11 we were getting 4mbps on a supposedly 100mb connection was worse than dial up. Sent engineers out but in the end found out they had restricted all download speeds on the line for everyone while maintenence and upgrades were carried out. Was even a story in the chronicle about it, complained they were in breach of contract got an upgrade and reduction in my bill and also compensation for the inconvenience. Miraculously a couple of days after the story in the chronicle the upgrade was completed and full speed returned.
I rely on them for work & I've had enough. I'm switching to someone this week. The alternatives don't seem great though. Not giving that smarmy lovely person any more of my money.
I may go with Sky. Murdoch is no longer involved with them. Virgin have been totally useless in LS6 for the last 3 years. It usually takes around 45 minutes to get through to their support. I just got a new bill of £42, just for broadband, my 12 month contract having just expired. Branson can stick that where the sun doesn't shine.
We've always been with Virgin - never had a problem. Used to have 200mb and got it. Then went to 100mb and just this week down to 50mb 'cos the lad's gone off to Uni so our useage has fallen off a cliff. It's always hit the speeds it should. Thought about changing last week, but turns out we've no fibre on our road yet, so it would have been 10mb tops via ADSL, which can f**k right off.
Broadband supply is a pain for me, I’m with virgin and have been for years but it costs me £36 per month for the internet / basic TV (which is practically just Freeview) and landline....of which have never had a phone plugged in. It’s going up to £39. I would change but problem I have is the standard BT cables down our street are useless, max speed is about 13Mbps. So I’m pretty much stuck with virgin as cable is my only option for a decent download speed as we have 2 kids permanently attached to their iPads + watching Netflix and online gaming.
I left Sky last year, after 18 years. And, whilst I admit they are the best, certainly if you include a TV package, you will regret giving them b@stards access to your bank account. They just keeping taking and taking. Promise you a fixed price, then hike it up. Promise you the world for 12 months, but grab you by the balls in year 2. Then get ready for people telling you that they get far more service for far less than you're paying. You're putting a pair of handcuffs on if you go with Sky mate. Why can't these people just have a simple pricing structure that's the same for everyone. They'd clean up. Right, anyway, all the best with that. Kick off in 3 mins, let's do this!!!
If you're with BT and don't need all the extra stuff, consider swapping over to Plusnet. It's BT's budget brand. So you're still on the BT network, but you pay less. It's working well for us, no different than when we paid more when we were still with BT.
Same opinion as Jam Drop. I'm with Virgin on Super Fibre 50. Found it to be very fast but a tad pricey. I have to be fair to them and compliment them on their customer services. I had a problem with my TV where the dialogue on the screen was out of sync with the persons lips on the screen. They diagnosed it as a weak signal due to a faulty V6 Box. Sent an engineer out the next day and fitted a new V6+ box at no cost which cured the problem immediately. I complained that my previous Service therefore must not have been up to the required standard, so without any quibble, they gave me a free month for TV, Broadband and landline. Happy with that.
I had virgin at a rented property and the service was fine but when my lease was up I had to move and they couldn't supply the property I moved to, but still made me pay the remainder of my contract. I vowed never to use them again.
Funnily enough I have just moved from Virgin to BT after 3 years with Virgin. I've surrendered 100mbps for about 54mbps. I haven't noticed any difference in speed actually - BT connection seems more reliable so far. Virgin were looking for inventive ways to charge me more more money - price went from £36 to £39 (Broadband only). When I tried to leave, citing the cost, they tried to upgrade me and charge me more. I then got a separate call from a bloke who offered me a cheaper deal, but by that stage I had decided to leave. At BT I pay £29.99 per month for 18 months, but I also got a £50 Amazon voucher and £100 pre-paid master card. So for 18 months I should be OK. The price goes up a lot after 18 months so will be looking for a new deal then. It's all quite a faff.
While I sacked off sky tv quite awhile ago I kept on the broadband as its always been very good for me. Plus using sky broadband to stream sky tv through other means makes me feel like a rebel
