Their new internet banking is driving me around the bend. There's now restrictions on what you can do, unless you use their banking app and my phone isn't up to the job. It just repeatedly crashes during setup. Transactions are limited to £500 and I've already had to pay some bills in two or three chunks. They sent me a security key to use on my laptop instead, yet the first time I've used it to move my savings around, it still hasn't let me send a higher value amount. I've phoned them up and they said the transaction has gone part way through, but it needs authorising first, as I'm using the key for the first time. There was no mention of that either in the letter or in the screen message. It was supposedly just a case of activating the key. They told me on the phone that the transaction had now been authorised and it would be in the desired account in a few hours. That was 10 hours ago and it still hasn't gone anywhere. It's getting beyond a joke. We are talking a four figure sum here, not the much larger five figure sums I've moved without incident in the past. My current account is the one thing I've never switched, but I'm seriously looking now.
Its sad whats happened to Yorkshire bank over the years. My mum was with them and had the same issues in setting up and functionality. I'd certainly explore options and in doing so, ask to trial the app or see a working demo if it. I'm still with intelligent finance who want me to leave, but its once of the best banking portals ive used, so just like using it. I've used metrobank (but not sure what presence they have in your area) and they are ok, but I just cant warm to them. Just a niggle every now and then. Good luck, but don't feel pressured into staying where you are. Plenty of articles and comparators online to try and match your needs to whats out there.
I'm with Yorkshire Bank and have never had a problem moving larger amounts out of my Ready Cash Account ( as opposed to also holding a Savings and Current Account). They sent me a small keypad ( looks like a small calculator). I go into my Account on my iPad and set the money transfer up. I then key in a 4 digit code into the hand held keypad, press 3 and a unique transaction number is shown. I tap that into the box on my Ready Cash transaction page. It then asks me for three characters from my Online banking password, I then press send and the job is done.
That's the security key I've been sent. The excuse for its failure this morning was first time use. She said this transaction would need authorising as well, but wouldn't in future. I think it's because I'm using the security key for the first time AND it's such a high amount...although she didn't exactly say that. I've used one of these keys before, but the old one isn't compatible with their new internet banking.
First direct. Literally everything done on iPhone using Touch ID. HSBC also decent. Whilst it doesn’t seem to have paym yet, it does allow you to photograph a cheque to pay it in.
I shouldn't have to, but if I am going to transfer a " largish" amount, I phone up on their telephone banking number and tell the YB advisor what I'm going to do. I then wait around 15 minutes and then do the transaction. A couple of times I've phoned up, the agent has asked if I'd like them to do the transaction for me and they've obliged.
I've finally got used to my YB account (new one) and it's great, a lot better to use and clearer. Keep at it.
I suspect it is if you don't have any app issues. If you haven't been able to set the app up, paying 4 figure bills or moving 4 figure amounts is a pallaver.
