Yes, absolutely insane, they're all rubbish...!!

The Peterborough game shows how decent the players are, if they are allowed time on the ball.
Plymouth gave us no space, bullied and out-muscled us. We didn't play very well, but Plymouth did really well in preventing us from getting into our stride.
Maybe it's because of our youth policy but when the game becomes a 'Men versus Boys' scenario rather than a proper footy match we don't look quite so good.

Peterborough gave us loads of space and played like the old Newcastle, just taking the approach that they would score more than us because that's what they've done to most teams this season.
That approach has been fine so far against teams worse than them. Can you imagine if they played like that against Spurs or someone - they'd get thrashed.
But today was an open football match and it showed what talent the players have when the conditions and opposition are right for them to show it.

Think most people have missed the point of the OP

If we intend to be a long term League 1 team I'd be offering them all new contracts. I don't think we are, I think the club have ambitions of promotion and I think they would like it this season. Whether we'll manage that or not I don't know, sometimes we look like we could walk the league, sometimes, particularly at home, we look like a mid-table side. If we do clinch promotion I think we'd struggle once more with this squad of players. As such, would I be desperate to tie them down to new contracts?

Don’t bother. He’s far too arrogant to come on here and admit he’s wrong.

You have just completely reworded the OP. That is nothing like what he posted Jay and you know it.

Would I be comfortable if we got promoted and went into the next season with the same squad ? No I think it would be a struggle and I stated so in this thread on Tuesday.

But I would be staggered if that happened

I don’t think we have jay. We are a league one side and as such have league one players, if we “got shut” as the OP stared who would we sign? A bunch of championship players on 20k a week? I do t think there’s be a queue. It’s true many of them struggled in the league above, some of them next time they have a crack at it won’t though, that’s the great thing about promotion, testing yourself bettering yourself. this team might get promoted, if so I believe we should strengthen for the league above, the manager and most understand that but to call them all out is plain wrong, something you probably understand too I’m sure

Two things. Firstly I stand by my comments.

Secondly, some people really need help. We've won 4-0 and rather than enjoying the victory all you can think of is point scoring. I know Watford Red doesn't go to games and has to go to desperate lengths to try and prove he is a true fan but still.

I wasn't rewording it, just saying how I interpreted it. Later in the thread he says he thinks we'll get in the play-offs.

You may be right Jay but while he throws out these ill considered and unsubstantiated statements then he’s going to cop some stick.
But hey, it’s likely that’s what he’s after.

** Conman in I’m a better fan alert shocker **

Travelled nearly 2,000 miles to watch us vs Plymouth on Tuesday night pal.

If you’d actually give the team and the club some credit for once then people wouldn’t jump on your comments.

Reap what you sow and all that.

Behave. Course they would. Have a look at the thread I started after the Oxford game.

If the only thing you can think of after a victory is the opportunity to point score, then there's summat wrong with you.

I fully intend to go out and enjoy my evening regardless of the result. Unlike some who can’t wait to start a thread the minute we don’t win.

We all know your Barnsley’s number one fan. Hope you find something else to moan about this evening.

We've won 4-0 and the only thread you've posted in is this one. Not one positive post about the performance or result. Tells me all I need to know.

If you want to go down silly routes like that we could easily add up your positive posts through out the season.

    Oh wait, there aren’t any..

Your point wasn’t missed, just ignored. I’m regularly positive about our team (as you know).

Off to enjoy my evening anyway.

Now you’re highlighting other people’s lack of positivity post game I’m expecting more positivity from you throughout the season.

    Don’t let me down.

I don't there's much to misunderstand; it's not Wittgenstein's philosophy I'm reading. His words were "We should be looking to move every one of these players on" - then later he says 90% should be moved on - because they aren't good enough to play in the Championship. In the next 3 windows we should look to change the squad completely, again, to have a Championship-ready squad, because the current squad will struggle.

I imagine there'll be a fair bit of movement anyway - there always seems to be for one reason or another - but I doubt it will be because the current management don't want a single player of the current staff. There are always better players out there in every position, and budget will dictate much of what goes on. If we are aiming to be a lower-half of the Championship team, then a number of players in the current squad could form the backbone of that. They were thrown in at the deep end last time and will be older and have improved next time round. I agree the higher your ambitions, the higher the turn-around but unless there's the budget to match that we should be looking to make smaller changes year on year.

If you think I am highlighting your lack of positivity then you really have missed or ignored the point. Not really worth responding if you are going to do that.
