Anyone got any advice on decent priced, nice hotels in NYC for families. Two kids 8 and 10. Thanks in advance
Used Airbnb a few times . Far cheaper than corporate digs and you can really drop on some top notch pads .
Yep we're using Airbnb in December - cracking apartment on 34th St, rooftop terrace, view of Empire State etc... Costing a fair bit, but it's our silver wedding trip and the boys are both adults now so it would have meant 2 hotel rooms, which would have been even more. When they were younger, we used the Distrikt Hotel on W 44th St, which was always reasonable. Really cool hotel - free mulled cider in reception - and a great location, once you'd shepherded the kids past the adult shops!!
Cheers all. We do fancy a city centre hotel but have looked at airbnb. Nothing really jumped out as yet.
I stayed in Express by holiday inn at madison square gardens a few years back. Had huge Double twin rooms - really good value unless there’s an event on.
Fantastic place just don't spend too much time in times Square it's madness but the rest is just full wow moments.
We stopped at The Redbury on East 29 Street. Reasonable price for NY. Centrally positioned for Empire State and Maceys for shopping.
Spent 7 days getting smashed in the bars near Times Square, there’s shopping in New York?? I stayed on HMS Liverpool down on the river. I understand this is absolutely no use to you but wanted to join in
I don’t get New York at all. It’s ugly and full of ugly looking people. Walked miles so I saw most of it. Very little diversity - saw 2 turbans and just 1 Indian restaurant. Giant Lego Land buildings that are just huge tall ugly boxes. Did all the major sites and museums. Taxis - big cars but there’s more room in the back of a mini. Woolworths building is probably the best looking building. Spent a Satdi night in the Village and Wombwell has more zip - I much prefer Leeds. As for London - then New York is nowhere near as good as that city. Usual American big it up - when in reality it’s shi.te. But you need to go to make your own mind up.
Example. How much hype and clips of Grand Central Station do you see in films ??? Take a look and it’s a big boring hall. Now stand in York Railway Station - the original York - and look up. Then tell me which one of them is more beautiful ???
Very little diversity? Did you actually set foot in Brooklyn (which in my opinion is far more interesting than Manhattan)?
