I'll be very interested to see what plans go forward IF we are promoted and IF the new owners secure the full ground. But as I've mentioned just about every 4 days when a new west stand thread comes up, there is no urgency at all to do anything with it as we cant fill our ground and the current away end is generally empty save a few hundred from the opponent. If we need more space, open up and properly segregate and we could get another 3-4k Barnsley fans in the ground. In time though I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Ponte and West Stand ripped out and a better more modern structure wrapping around that corner.
With so many people against the West Stand being knocked down, I wonder how easy it would be to put an upper tier on the Ponte End? We do need a new West Stand though. Two tiers, corporate boxes with balconies, roof that reaches the gravel track, modern media centre, modern directors area, no restricted viewing, no wooden seats, plenty of leg room, good drainage system for when it rains unlike the East Stand and get the players coming back out there for more of an home advantage.
Why do we currently need another tier on the Ponte? We cant fill the single tier we currently have. I wonder if other club fans have such a fascination of upgrading their ground when it only gets about 50% full?
We don’t need two tiers we can’t fill what we’ve got . I know some say we should be ambitious etc but many clubs have been in trouble because of being too ambitious . A small west stand on the scale it is now is sufficient imo . It should be able to house a smaller number of away fans in case we need north stand for our own fans .plus changing rooms , exec boxes , board room ,and room for existing fans already in that area plus a few more , a decent players bench and tech area .a club house at front plus proper reception area and ample room for emergency services and vehicles . And a press area for reporters , commentators etc. We would never get planning permission anyway for a higher stand with houses in close proximity so quality over quantity is the way to go imo
Our owners are ambitious. They aren't billionaires by luck. If the dream is the premier league then I would prefer the ground being sorted beforehand so we didn't have a three sided top flight ground. Surroundings are everything. It might tempt those in power to do a Huddersfield/Bradford type of deal. We might even be able to bid for some stadium concerts like grounds such as Doncaster, Chesterfield, Huddersfield, Norwich City, Bristol City and others get.
All those grounds you mention havnt got an housing estate on their doorstep. I think that’s a tad too ambitious with the grounds lication imo
Huddersfield's has to be fair... its very close anyway. Completely agree with your standpoint though, not the time to upgrade if you ask me.
Leave the current lower tier as that doesn't effect the main structure. Demolish the box at the back and build a single tier structure with new facilities etc underneath and make the roof over hang the existing lower tier. You still have the two tier structure. However it would be lower. Incorporate new turnstiles into the outer wall of the new stand.
