How is it changing tack. I'm still talking about the same players. I'm concerned about quality of cover for certain positions and some are being short sighted just because we've won. You were the one who was trying to discredit my opinion, so don't ******* come it.

we were easily the better side, gave away a cheap penalty and they got a complete fluke, we put away 3 excellent strikes, good result boys

My mate who's a Reading fan went today and his assessment was "excellent display by Barnsley, never in trouble, victory far more comfortable than 3-2 suggests". Which to be honest coincides with the match I watched.

We are in the 3rd tier of English Football. Clubs at this level don’t have seven £1m players sat on their arse warming the bench every week. Having said that I wouldn’t mind betting we have one of the strongest subs bench that turn out every week in this league.

Players that are covering did OK. In fact more than OK.

Was very windy. They did the classic of barging the keeper at the first opportunity. That was a tactic from the Nelson League back in the day. (Lowest tier in Barnsley local leagues). Player should have got a card for that challenge. Walton did OK, apart from spilling that shot, which could have been given, as the scorer was only marginally off. Some on here would have gone to town on that, had it stood. The lad is learning & is not quite ready, but that could be said of a few of the raw players we have. Come the end of the season it could be a different story.

McGeehan had his best game in a Barnsley shirt vs his former club & fully justified his inclusion. (Before the match I'd hoped we'd play Bird). Great to see him on the scoresheet, took his goal really well. Got stuck in & was always around the play.

Apart from the pen Williams did OK. Had a lot to deal with down that side. Pinillios will be back in next match though. 2 games & he can be proud to be a part of two winning matches.

Adequate cover for Dougall? Yes. Plenty. Another player who doesn't get in the side when Dougall is available, but is as good as him? No, Dougall is a really good player, we're a League 1 side, we've done well to unearth and sign him. I think this is a good thing. I don't think it's a bad thing that we didn't find two of them. What we have got is lots of midfield options, which Stendel can use when he can't call on Dougall, that are good enough to beat League 1 opposition. I think today proved that. I thought our midfield today was much better than theirs. In other areas, maybe not, but for the majority of the game our midfield was dominant. A view echoed by the commentary team on Sky who were full of praise for that area of our team.

Adequate cover for Davies? Yes. Is Walton as good as Davies? In my opinion, no, not yet, and I'm guessing not in Stendel's either. That's why Davies is first choice and Walton second. But there were plenty of people who thought Walton should start this season after the way he finished last. Some still believe he should be the first choice now. I don't, but I think he's good enough to play when Davies is unavailable. I think by having Walton as the second choice we have chance to develop one of our own who may turn out to be a very good player. Right now it's saving us money by not having to pay another player to sit on the bench. Because of the strict FFP rules in this league that saving may allow us to sign another outfield player in January. In the long term it may save us money as we've developed an academy graduate to play in the first team. Or it may make us money if we sell him for a transfer fee. Or he may not turn out be good enough and we let him go. But I'm guessing the club think he will be which is why they didn't sign another keeper.

Adequate cover for Moore? No, not really. I think most people are of this opinion. We should have signed another forward in the summer as the majority said at the time. But despite us all believing this, the fact remains that yesterday Moore wasn't available yet we scored three goals, so it's not really a very good example to use to prove our point. We may be wrong. Because of the different systems Stendel uses and the ability of our midfield players to adapt to these, the consensus opinion that we're a striker short may prove to be an unjustified worry. I'm sure the next game we play without Moore when we don't score will be used as proof that we should have signed another striker, but this will conveniently disregard the blanks we drew against Coventry and Wimbledon, the latter of which we played with Moore, Bradshaw and Thiam in the starting 11.

Woodrow is only 2 weeks away.

I think Brown isn't destined to be a striker, could well end up as a wing back. He won a fair few headers today, but wasn't able to pull off the heroics that Moore does holding up long balls.

We defended well second half overall & I think Luton are probably the best team we've played at Oakwell this season. McGeehan came of age for me. He must have loved stroking that ball in vs his old team. I hope he can push on now, but with Potts on form I'm not sure where you play him, as he's clearly better as an attacking midfielder.

Mcgheehan should have had a second too, his header hit the post. His best game for us so far from an admittedly low bar.

Brown didn't have a great game but in fairness to him:

For the 1st goal he brought a scrappy ball under control and played Potts into space to run at goal

For the 2nd his well timed near post run drew two men and created space at the back of the box for McGeehan to come in unmarked.

For the 3rd his direct attacking run at goal created the chance for Mama to shoot.

With our two first choice centre forwards out he did a respectable job for a young lad playing on his own up front against a decent side in good form.

Good analysis. Like you said, not a great game but still occupied the defence and made the space for others to exploit.

If you took De Gea, luke Shaw. Matric and lukaku out of the man utd side they would more than struggle, you can say the same for any team who loses 4 first team starters in key positions. Magnificent performance yesterday against a decent side and Walton, Williams, Mcgheehan and Brown did us proud I can't wait to see what team Stendell picks when Moore Woodrow, Fryers, Dougall and Davies are back.

Moncur, Thiam, Bahre, Mcgheehan, Cavare will a get stronger as the season progresses and their confidence and popularity rises with the supporters, hopefully Davies, Pinnock, Lyndsay, Potts Dougall, Mowatt and Moore will maintain their standards as they have been fantastic.

Woodrow may be the final piece to really nail this league and now I think its been proved that the overall squad is now good enough to gain promotion from this division, its not enough for the championship but definitely is for this league.

Potentially the strongest team may be -

    Davies,

    Cavare. Pinnock, Lyndsay. Pinnilos

    Potts Mowatt Dougall

    Woodrow Moore and Moncur.

    Subs
Walton, Jackson, Bahre, Mcgheehan, Thiam, Hedges, Fyrers

    Not in the squad

Brown, J and B Williams, Isgrove, Vic Adebejo. Bird

No real need to add to the squad as all the players who don't make the squad have played in the fantastic start we have had to this season. A forth centre back, a more experienced back up goalie, cover for Dougall have been mentioned as well as another striker if woodrow isn't real but I wouldn't upset what a appears to be a squad that's bonded and doing well. It also doesn't seen right to add another 4 players to an already big squad.
