Anyway here’s a good article which summarises Croatia’s problematic relationship with football and Nazi type behaviour etc https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/07/3...e-to-join-the-party-thompson-ustashe-fascism/
I’ve read a zillion comments online condemning the church and saying it should be shutdown due to the behaviour of the paedo priests, yet they are are a tiny minority. BUT they definitely represent a sickness in the organisation. You could post on here that the “Catholic Church is a paedophile ring” and you’d get no abuse. But question the state of Croatia and its history - apparently thats the worse thing anyone ever said on this board.......have a word.
As a atheist I feel qualified to say God is made up nonsense and starting any statement with "as Catholic" as if that adds weight to it validity is about as useful as if you had said "as someone who believes the tooth fairy is real"
Croatia was an occupied territory during the war (according to the Nuremberg Military Tribunals). It might have been the most enthusiastic follower of the Nazi's, but it was in the same position as France, Holland, Poland and Czechoslovakia and a fair few other countries in that period. They also had a partisan resistance under Tito, with the survivors of the old leadership (the Ustase) being forced out of the country before being refused entry into Austria by the British and mostly captured by the Soviets in 1945. The leader Pavelic ended up dying in Spain in the late 1950s. The modern Croatia which was formed out of Yugoslavia has no link to the Croatia of the war, other than the geography.
Thanks I’d never considered belief in God to be the same as believing in the tooth fairy but your comments have really opened my eyes to the link, I am converted.
So by this ridiculous reasoning im assuming you feel the same about Germans too? It's quite funny really. You clearly don't like Hitler and I'm presuming that is because of his actions and beliefs, you know... condemning huge groups of people based on ignorance etc... oh hang on, you've just made a similar sweeping statement against Croats! WW2 ended 73 years ago ffs...don't tar people with the same brush.

Nah Germany faced up to its past a long time ago, only idiot football fans and right wing EDL types still bang on about it. Unfortunately Croatia has not faced up to it and indeed continues to celebrate its fascist past.
1. I wouldn’t do that, my post was clearly one trying to highlight that your sweeping generalisation is just that 2. I think there would be people on here who would rightly call out someone for saying it. Me for a start. 3. Thanks for the history lesson. Allow me to continue it. The Croatia of the end of the war ceased to exist. It was absorbed into Yugoslavia and as had already been pointed out in part, it has no ties to the previous incarnation of Croatia politically or otherwise other than its location. There are several modern day countries who were nazi occupied, adopted their regime, are they all nazi now too? Seventy odd years later? A swastika was burnt onto a pitch in Croatia. Absolutely abhorrent behaviour which has rightly been punished. Have the Croatian government or large swathes of its people complained that this was unfair as what they did is fair and justified? Would you for example accept it if say, someone from Hungary proclaimed ‘once British, always a thuggish hooligan?’ Based on five minutes of footage of Millwall fans or having watched Green Street? There is a worrying far right minority seemingly getting louder and louder in many parts of the world. As I said, including here. I’m actually quite surprised you are trying to justify yourself in a series of posts quoting all sorts of waffle - what you said was absolutely f*cking ridiculous. So you ‘have a word.’ Maybe have that word with your God, to see if he approves of you being an intolerant bigot who can’t properly accept an error and apologise. I’m not religious, not a believer, but my dad and all of his side of the family are Roman Catholic. I have no problem with anyone’s religion and I’m not criticising yours. But don’t hide behind it to excuse racist behaviour. Given the history, our country has an excellent relationship with Germany, as well as France, Austria, most of Europe. (Well, until recent events...!). I think we’ve moved on, the Germans I’ve come across in life don’t come across like they wish they had nazi regimes. It’s not always been spoken about, but come on, seriously. You are aware our manager is from the east side of Germany? On the Polish border? So why single out Croatia? I’ve not seen it all but it looks to me to be a lovely modern day country, with places of historic interest, lovely coast, and mostly welcoming people. With a few idiots. Name me a place that has none.
Listen whilst I admit my initial comment was a bit ott I’ve provided plenty of evidence which suggests Croatia and its people have a very problematic and worrying association with its fascistic past. And if you wish to continue to deny it in the face of the evidence that’s your problem not mine.
