But clubs like barnsley cannot reinvest like you’d like to. In the sense of using the monies to invest in wages that will attract players to come to us. Clubs in the premiership already have the sky money to rely on which if I am right is in excess of £130m each. Please don’t use Liverpool as a comparison. That’s like them saying let him run his contract down and bugger the consequences. We can afford it.

Your initial comment picked out the two best players in the world so I thought choosing a top flight team was a fair example?

I'm realistic in my expectations for the owners i think. I don't think they're going to break our transfer record anytime soon and I don't think we should have offered Conor ridiculous money to stay for instance. The club was right to offload Bradshaw too.

The point I was making was that if and when Potts or Moore gets sold, we can't afford to wait 1-2 seasons for their replacements to get the necessary experience to be competitive again. This season we seem to have invested well and I'm hoping this continues going forward.

To be honest the development way is the best way to take our club forward imo. When we sold winnall he had 6months left on his deal we then went and signed keiffer moore for 650k who is looking a steal for that price and with 3 years still left we would be looking at big money if clubs did come in. We sold Marc Roberts and bought ethan pinnock for 500k robo can't get a kick at the minute and if someone asked to swap Roberts for pinnock or Lindsay right now it would be a no from me. The way we move forward is keep this team together past January especially Potts, moore and pinnock as I think they are the 3 who will attract the most attention come January. Offer mowatt a new deal and I think the squad is good enough for promotion and then build on that with a similar model it isn't doing too bad for Brentford.

    Fair dos.

I think January is going to be a massive test for the owners. I really hope we can retain this team and build on it as you say. If we don't retain and then end up staying in the third tier then a few million for whoever we have sold isn't worth it.

With regards stones and mawson we got a poor initial fee for stones but got a decent deal with mawson. But it's hard to deny young players their dream move to a premiership team and it wouldn't make us look good to other young players we wanted to sign.

I’m not disputing the reasons for selling them I just can’t understand why people are twisting his comments.

Of the 3 times we’ve been in the play off hunt in the last 10 years or so the 2 times we lost players in January - Vaz Te & Drinkwater under Hill & Winnall, Hourihane, Bree & Morsy under Hecky our season petered out.

In League 1 under Hecky when we didn’t sell anyone we went up.

It’s just common sense that if we keep our team together we’ve a good chance of going straight back up

Understand that titus. But it was in response to Django saying we always sell our best players. My point is that any club will do the same. But sometimes for different purposes. Way it was explained to me is that Barnsley could offer a new contract of say another £10,000 per week on top of present contract. If a player realises his true or agents value . He Could leave and pick up not only wages way beyond that , but a massive signing on fee besides.((Bosman was great for players. But crippled some club's who needed transfer incomes to subsidize the running costs.)

Yeah would be disappointing if we did sell we don't need to though. Our best players have decent lengths on their contracts so keep the team together.

We definitely don't need to. I think things could turn very sour in January if we do sell a couple of our best. I don't think they will, I think PC did what he needed to for the right reasons and those pressures are no longer there now. Fingers crossed.

Can't believe Hecky had the balls to appear on sky and criticise us we doing better now than we did under him or ever would have ......the term desert a sinking ship comes to mind with his departure

I agree we'd be mad to sell in January. If anything we need to strengthen to cover one or two positions. Agents are very good at turning players heads, but if we are still top of the table players should be motivated to see the job through. If we get a big offer in the summer for Potts or Pinnock, then it will need to be looked at, as the model is to bring young players on & sell at a profit.

    Oh God !!!
Hecky is the best manager I’ve seen at Oakwell.
    End of - full stop.
However, Stendel could turn out to be better.
But Stendel has the luxury of having a wealthy owner supporting him.
Hecky never had that luxury - in fact he had the opposite - an owner willing to sell the team from under him.
And then a new owner that clearly didn’t want him.
Hecky is more of a gent than I am - because if that had happened to me I would raise the roof.
    I’d welcome Hecky back anytime.

As for players leaving - very little chance of that now - unless they force the deal like Bradshaw did.
But what ever happens - we will get the RIGHT PRICE for them - which will be a first in my lifetime.

I don't think people are twisting his comments but every time he gets on sky or does a interview he seems to mention the same things. I watched when Leeds were on sky v stoke and he was the pundit he had to get it in that he thought he hadn't been given enough time ect but then looked a little silly when bielsa named the starting 11 and only 2 players were unavailable to hecky they hammered stoke with attacking football.
Like this side same players hecky had many thought we would struggle on here as it was the players who weren't upto it. So far the football has been good we have only lost once and sit 3rd with a game in hand stendal is getting the best from these players and playing an attacking style of football.

Agree with you there pal, the players he was saying we did well to keep were the same ones he spent 6 months saying were crap. The more he talks the more I'm glad he's not here any more.

No way would I swap Stendel & Winkler for Hecky.

I liked Hecky, until he did what he did. I think it is evident that a lot of our players are performing to a much higher level under Stendel.
How this squad would do in the chamionship, I'm unsure, but I expect us to keep improving as the season goes on.

I bear the guy no malice at all & hope he gets another job somewhere. I just think these guys are a breath of fresh air, after the negativity of last season under Hecky & the bizarre Morais period. I think Hecky wasn't given a chance at Leeds, but that is no surprise is it, with their track record.

All that sums up exactly how I feel towards it all.

I feel whatever division we are in, we will try and attack teams under these coaches.

It is a really exciting time to be a Reds fan. I'm one of those that always hards back to the Clarke / Hunter period, but I have to say this is starting to look similar. We have no fear & set out from the first minute to blow teams away.

I've just finished watching the game back and a few further things caught my eye.

There was certainly a bitterness still to old PH. And an orange pocket handkerchief with no tie.... i'm sure its nothing, but could easily be picked up as supporting a team we're playing who commonly have orange in their kit.

The second half. I thought we were very solid 2nd half and at no point did I think we'd lose. Seems much of the ground thought the same as there was no whistling at all for the final whistle. The stats showed we had double the chances to Luton second half with a few minutes remaining.

Third, at the time I thought Walton made a complete pigs ear of the fluke cross that they scored the second from. It did though seem like it got caught by the wind and looped higher. I think he was slow to recover and needs to work on recovery, but it wasn't the shocker I thought it was at the time.

But in all, impressive with 4 first team regulars and Woodrow not starting and that was echoed in comments by neutrals who saw the game.

We were always going to do well this season because of the gulf in quality between the 2 leagues & that the squad have now had a season to gel. 2nd favourites & we’re 2nd. We’re about where we should be.

There wasn’t many who said we’d struggle, they were a loud minority, most have been level headed throughout & said that they’ll only get better for more game time & experience. Weren’t it the same people starting the same threads over & over again & getting shot down?

If I was a manager who took a job on in February & got the sack without having a transfer window I’d feel hard done to but if you get the chance to go for Bielsa it’s an easy choice.

Barring a handful of elite managers no one looks silly if Bielsa does a better job than them. When Pep Guardiola’s calling him the best manager in the world & he’s winning the Copa America over Brazil, Argentina, Colombia & Uruguay you know the blokes special. It’s hardly Michael Appleton doing a better job.
