Yes of course he did - because the club was an absolute shambles after the 2016 final. But he still managed to get the club within a point of the playoff place - until that is, the team was sold from under him. Tragic. However - we eventually did get another great manager in Stendel. It would be good if Hecky wrote a book about his career.
If I ever hear the name Cole Kpekawa again other than on this messageboard I expect it will be over a tannoy and followed by the words "please clean up the spillage on aisle 3"
I don't think it's worth remembering at all. For the most part he couldn't get these lads winning football matches. I'll remember him for the JPT and promotion season, or are we remembering that those players were Wilson and Johnsons?
From the small amount i've seen of Stendel, I think we've bagged a fantastic find. Been very impressed with his reading of the game and in particular substitutions. Hugely likeable, hungry to do well and all of them just seem a really good bunch all keen to do well. The ex coach to me just has a huge chip on his shoulder. He took it into Leeds and did himself out of a job in weeks for not getting fans players and his bosses onside quickly. He's displayed it in several interviews since. Clubs don't want sour people around them. If he doesn't lose the chip sharpish, he might not have much content for any book he wishes to write.
I think you need to remember him from August to December 2016 and the brilliant football we played then. Taking the Championship by surprise. Let’s not forget that. And then remember the players that were sold against his will. And then remember the McBurnie debacle and then Harvey Barnes being recalled. And then imagine a team with Moore and McBurnie in the middle with Barnes and Hammill on either wing.
If he is such a good manager he will be employed in the not so distant future. Knocked back for scunny and Bradford. In reality he has achieved the same as Paul Warne! Jury is still out for me.
Ha. Brilliant. Well done. If he hasn't done so already, he'll soon tell you that you're fooooooooooooking thick and don't know how to foooooooooooooking think for your foooooooooooooooooooooooooking self.
Are you going to address the comments regarding your contradictions about who signed the players? Anything to bash on GG, eh? Your brain cell must get lonely, seems a shame.
Yeah fair play, the team continued to do well albeit mostly away from home until January, but that's nearly 2 years ago now. If we're giving Hecky credit for success with Wilson and Johnsons players, then it's only fair to give Stendel all the credit now and consign Hecky to history with all the other ex managers.
If you take the team that started against Luton, most Hecky can’t make a claim for. The whole piece in the paper was about Hecky putting himself in the shop window.
Are you drunk? First off the manager doesn’t even recruit the players, I thought all our fans knew that by now. I highly doubt he thought Cole Kpekawa was up to much when he played several different players over him. Pinnock came into the team early in the season when Angus got sent off, he then got injured & was out for a while & got back in when fit. Are you really criticising him for not playing an injured player? Bradshaw pretty much had to play as a lone striker because the other two options were an unfit Thiam who signed late & Ugbo who wasn’t up to it. I don’t know if you remember but the McBurnie deal fell through. Moncur demanded a loan move because he couldn’t shift Hourihane & Scowen from the first team. If you can show me anything to suggest that dropping either of them or completely changing the system to accommodate Moncur would’ve improved a side that were pushing for the play offs after 4 months I’d be amazed. If you don’t like the bloke fair enough, just ignore him or say I think he’s a ***** but is there any need to make up a load of stuff online?
I can’t even believe what I’m still reading on here in 2018. How many interviews from Cryne, Mansfield, Heckingbottom, Ganaye etc do we need to hear before we realise that the managers have very little input into who we sign. Point scoring with ‘Johnson’s players’, ‘Hecky’s players’, ‘Stendel’s players’. Just grow up. None of you know who’s identified who. You can make educated guesses on the odd one like Bahre been someone Stendel’s identified but for 90+% no one knows
I'll stick my neck out and say I still rate Hecky and think he did a cracking job for the most part. I honestly think if he'd gone to Norwich or somewhere not being Leeds we'd look back on him a lot more fondly. I didn't like how he left and his sound bites in the aftermath were disappointing but honestly think his remarkable achievements in 2016 are being diluted due to where he went after us. Which is a shame.
No point scoring on my part. Just wondering why Stendels players are heckys players but heckys players weren't Johnsons or Wilsons players. When you can decipher what I just wrote, you'll see its a reasonable question.
Same. You’ve only got to look at how opinion on here changed all of a sudden on here after he left. There were very few who were critical, most thought that to have had to rebuild virtually a whole team in one transfer window with only kids he was doing a good job. As soon as he left many changed their opinion pretty much over night & started pretending he wasn’t doing a decent job. Plenty of people find it hard to separate their opinions of someone personally to the job they did. I can’t stand Winnall for example but I’d never start saying he wasn’t a good footballer like some have done
