I managed to last season but from the Forest game onwards at back end of last season, when I connected via vpn and tried to watch, it said your “location access is restricted”. Even changed locations a few times and still didn’t work. Wondering if anyone’s managed to get it working thru a vpn this season as I’d like to try tonight for 1st time this season. Understand it’s available still for a tenner which will be ok if no other option.

Not sure but I don't think you need a VPN for midweek games

Watched every away game this year through a VPN.

Is it possible you were using a split tunnel VPN, or that you use a free public one that would have got IP blocked?

I use a vpn from PIA. I did have it set to my uk address tho and uk bank account so no idea if that may have had something to do with it?

I've never used a VPN for iFollow, but are you activating the VPN before you open any browser window? What country are you setting it to?

It is rumoured that I take regular flights to eastern european countries just to watch Barnsley away matches when not there in person..

I also use my UK Address and bank. PIA is a public VPN company and their IP address range can easily be blocked.

The only real way is to buy a server yourself and set one up. Never had a problem.

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides you with a direct, encrypted connection to a private network via the internet. These services provide both a way of encrypting and anonymising your internet use and of appearing to be located in another country.

KODI is more of a media server / player. Nothing illegal about having it and using it for such purposes. It is however also used for adding certain streaming sources of pirated material so that's when people end up on the wrong side of the law. In 2017 the EU courts ruled it illegal to either sell these so called 'Fully loaded' boxes, meaning having addons with the pirated streams. they also ruled it illegal to watch unauthorised content, where previously it was just illegal to download content. There has been a big crackdown on the sellers and those that host the streams but it gets far more complicated for companies to take action against probably millions of people who just watch the streams.

VPN's are nothing to do with KODI nor streaming directly. Basically they just encrypt the internet traffic and can base servers around the world to both provide anonimity around peoples usage and also get around geo location barriers.

A VPN essentially works as a middleman. When you browse the internet traffic goes between your computer and BT/Sky or whomever you're with. With a VPN the traffic goes to a third party, then to BT/Sky. You can choose where this third party may be, and this is where you'll appear to be, because BT/Sky can't tell the difference between you and the third party.

    Not exactly,

It still goes from your computer to your ISP (BT/Sky) but then goes to the VPN before going to the end destination (in this case, iFollow).

It's also encrypted between your computer and the VPN, usually, so your ISP can not see anything you're doing for that 'hop'.
