Spurs v Man City on Sky now and you can clearly see all the NFL markings, including a great big coloured one in the centre circle. The grass looks well worn as well.
Im a big Nfl fan but I agree, it sucks that they get to play on our English national pitch especially at this time of year. But, I also hate the idea of Tottingham or any other club for that matter, playing all their so called home games there.
So whats going on there Zeb, I did think their new stadium was meant to be ready for this season (in August!).
Why are they using Wembley anyway? Wouldn't a stadium like Twickenham be more appropriate with American football being a lot more like rugby than like football?
I suspect its 2 reasons, to appease the yanks to at least play at our national stadium for having to forego true home games and play thousands of miles away. And 2, generate income to pay down the Wembley debt. Poor state of the pitch, but they've had what, 3 games in a row now? Fed up with the annoying rallies in Traffy square too. Before the Charlton game, was in the Barrowboy & Banker at London Bridge which has daubed NFL stuff all over itself. Heard a young American lad coming in asking if they were showing the blah blah vs blah blah college game. Face of the bouncer was a picture mind you.
The recent damage to the pitch was caused due to the Joshua v Povetkin fight and the position of the ring and seating around the centre circle If you watched the initial nfl game the commentater commented on the very bad state of the pitch in the initial stages of the game. I'm not saying that the additional games hasn't done further damage but I remember thinking how bad it looked then. Previous years of nfl hasn't created the kind of damage we have seen this season.
Last year's games were between Wembley and Twickenham with a couple of weeks in between. Think we have had 3 games before but I think they were slightly better spread giving the pitch time to recover. Also now spurs are playing on it they are not allowing time for the grass to re establish itself Its definitely being over used at the moment though.
Was supposed to be at the new Spurs stadium this year, they have the retractable turf that can be changed out for NFL games, but the stadium wasn't ready.
