Not popular at Bristol. Apparently gave the middle finger and ****** sign to their fans whilst walking up the tunnel on Saturday. Looking at their forum they seem to hate him, but in fairness I think he was the only player to force a save for them.
He was his was the one shot on target when he outmuscled Pinnock and fired straight at Davis who had closed him down really well Must admit though he was one of their better players never for one moment did I think I wanted him back
Actually I think he did - I am sure it was a mishit cross but I think it was going in - so the stats are possibly wrong as they had 2 attempts on target even if one was accidental
Strange how views differ. Their fans think he's bone idle, but he seemed to have a thankless task up top on his own and still managed a few attempts on goal. Some of our lot think we were terrible and lucky to win, but very few Bristol fans seem to concur with that viewpoint. They seem to think they had a good go at it, but didn't really create anything apart from long range attempts.
Must admit I am with the Bristol fans on the game in that case - We were well below our best but we could still be playing now and still Bristol wouldnt have scored even with the help of the "referee" we should have won by more than 1 goal so I don't get the lucky to win argument unless its that we were lucky Bristol were poor and a better side would have beaten us
Yeah, big difference from Tuesday at Shrewsbury where we were opened up very easily. Main thing was we stopped the mini slide. We've something to build on again now.
Just watched the match back and have to say, there was nothing lucky about that performance. I did think we played within ourselves, but that's natural after 2 successive defeats. I also thought we stood up to some robust tackles and again, a complete lack of protection from a very strange refereeing performance. Seriously, do they have to get changed outside at Oakwell or something, we never seem to get a referee that's shocking, but to our benefit. It wasn't a scintillating gung ho game, but it showed good character to limit Bristol Rovers and at times we passed the ball really well. Seen much much worse performances down the years.
Yes, I said same about our passing. Thought we had some good spells of pass and move. Think we've been spoilt by some of the big wins. Teams are now making things a bit more difficult.
I remember a match against Bristol Rovers under Machin where we absolutely battered them and somehow lost 1-0. It wasn't just that we were the better team. It was one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen, yet they escaped with 3 points. I'll take a scrappy win over that every time thanks.
I remember that game as well, one of our unluckiest 0-1 losses to be honest. In the days when we seemed to lose most of our home games, about Nov '91 wasn't it ?.
Ahh the old fashioned Barclays performance of the week award eh, didn't we also win it in those days for a 1-2 win away at the 'old' Wolverhampton.
