I'd say government support for mental health in general is bordering on nil. Well that's clearly an exaggeration but let's say it's woefully, almost criminally sub standard.
My cousin is a psychiatric nurse who went into the profession after her brother committed suicide. She loves her job, but I know that she finds certain organisational aspects extremely frustrating.
At the start of WWI we did have professional soldiers fighting but such was the rate of death and injuries they had to be replaced pretty quickly, these were the "Pals Battalions" where friends, neighbours and work colleagues joined up together. In 1916 conscription was introduced and men no longer had any choice about joining up. In WW2 conscription was brought in right from the start in 1939.
To be fair whatever your views the lad doesn’t help himself, quoting bobby chuffing sands. James McClean issues extraordinary attack on 'uneducated cavemen' fans then quotes IRA martyr after being abused on pitch for not wearing poppy - The Independent https://apple.news/AMQcrQH-9RamUqu6h4QXgKA
As my West Brom supporting ex-soldier friend says - he won't wear the poppy but he's more than happy to trouser the wages paid for by ex-soldiers in the crowd.
And like others have said in this thread, just because the people who pay your wages have a certain view, doesn't mean you have to share that, too. That's the whole point in fighting isn't it? For freedom and choice? I believe he has also openly said in the past that if the poppy represented just the world wars then he would wear it. He's wrong to quote Bobby Sands IMO but other than that he's entitled to not wear one.
If there are any scientists in the crowd working on biological warfare does he have to support the use of that too? If someone has paid for a ticket with the money they've acquired from mugging a pensioner does he have to come out in support of them? Or is this just not a very good argument to use.
I don't think he actually made his money via such activities. It's hard enough for the players having to support the field of employment of everyone in the entire crowd without them having to come out in solidarity with their hobbies too.
This thread had gone on for pages, can we delete it and just have this post please? A perfect summary in less than a hundred characters.
Crickey is he has to be a UKIP, conservative, Labour Lib Dem who believes in Jesus and is a Mohammed Atheistic Jew, who believes/hates the British Empire and also is a pro-Brexit remainer in order to cover all bases of those who pay his wages? Sounds exhausting.
