It's a shame people insist on starting with the fireworks sometimes a month in advance of the 5th of November. It would be so much easier on the dogs if the noise was limited to a night or two per year. I'm quite lucky as my dog Tina actually likes the things, and will sit looking out of the window, tail wagging waiting for a bang or to see the lights. She's always been a strange thing...

We had a blind women have fireworks thrown at her & her guide dog in Hyde Park, Leeds.
I'd personally be in favour of a ban of over the counter sales & make people have to apply for a licence.
Too many f-ing hooligans prating about with them.

I thought fireworks sales were already severely restricted in the UK?

Really? I thought they could only be bought over the counter around November 5th. Otherwise they had to be ordered.

This is the legal position, which is completely unenforced, mainly as there are no police resources to do so:

Round the Hyde Park area (where I used to live for 19 years & I only live ten minutes walk from Hyde Park Corner now), you have to watch your back for about 3 weeks if you are out in an evening, as youths are throwing them around everywhere.
Not sure what things are like in Barnsley.

We have a massive bonfire & fireworks display that the Council put on & loads of other organised displays. I think that should be enough to celebrate the burning of some catholics in 1605.

Very interesting. So the law hasn't been liberalised, just nobody bothers with it.

Most crime goes uninvestigated these days sadly, unless it is violent / sexual / racial, as there just aren't the resources.

My dog was on tramadol after his op , it made him sleepy but put him off his food and water.... there are other tablets on the market and a plug in device, I believe there is also a calming collar too.
