First 80 minutes: not a lot of effort. Tippy tappy, no challenges, no running, no contribution. 80th minute: Fans call him ***** and a lazy ******* Next 10 minutes: sprinting around, running with the ball, making strong challenges. Different player Hmm...
His work rate was noticeably higher quite literally seconds after the bollocking he had just received. He sprinted straight forward and put a crunching tackle in
He reminds me of Hourihane a bit, when we first got him he only wanted to do the nice stuff but as he learnt to tackle it actually made his whole game a lot better. He needs to start forcing himself into challenges and I’m convinced there’s a player in there if he does it more consistently.
Really expected this lad to blow us away, sadly just not happened for him...not sure if its the holding role that stops him playing his normal game but most of the guys around me in the upper are disappointed in his development, prefer Potts in middle driving forward and splitting the defence.. Pretty sure when everyone's fit/ available its back to the bench for him.
When you says “fans call him ***** and a lazy *******” what do you mean? On here? In the stands? Because I didn’t hear anyone slagging him from where I was sat.
On the stands. There was a particular moment when he heard a bit of abuse as he was near the touchline
Thought he did okay throughout the 90 mins with out being owt special. 80 mins was that when he ballsed the free kick up?
Mcgheehan did OK, always available for the ball, new too the defensive midfield position but we certainly were not overrun through the middle, anyone giving one of our players abuse while he is playing needs to get a grip of their sad poisonous lives and piss off and watch Sheff Wednesday.
Until recently I didn't rate McGeehan at all. I'd seen all his games and he'd showed very little, if anything. In the games he's filled in for Dougal, I think he's done ok. He's not like Mowatt or Dougal who can beat a man. He's more in the Hourihane mould of providing an outlet and moving the ball. Hourihane didn't become that player until he dropped deep, and it seems to suit McGeehan better as well, although he's obviously not at that level.
Been a difficult 18 months for McGeehan, and hopefully a run of games will really help him. At moment it feels like he’s just trying to feel his way back to the form that he was in at Luton before the Leg Break. There’s been definate improvement and the game at Luton showed there’s a really good player in there for me. He was a naturally attacking midfielder, playing just behind the strikers and getting a lot of goals with late runs into the box. Looks like he’s learning to play much deeper, break up play and dictate tempo. I’m hoping by the time Dougall is back then McGeehan will be in good form and make it hard for Kenny to get back in. He also is a real threat at corners as he finds room at the back post a lot. Once he finds his range think he’ll be an added goal threat.
I thought he was one of our better players yesterday & did not hear any fans giving him any verbal & there was no apparent change in his style or approach in the last ten minutes , well I personally didn"t notice any .
I also didn't hear any abuse. As others have said, I think he's getting fitter, stronger and more confident as he gets more games. I also think it's important we remember that we're asking him to do a role that's not familiar to him. At Luton he was an attacking midfielder who scored goals arriving in the box. We're asking him to fill in for Dougall, to sit deeper, break up the play and pass and that's not his natural game I don't think. He's learning. At the moment he is taking the easy option passing sideways a bit too much imo, he's not as quick to move the ball forward or play a more incisive ball - but I think he'll do both more, particularly as he grows in confidence. I don't think he's had any abuse but if we did it'd be counter-productive. We have to allow him to develop. He's the best option in there at present, it'd be good if Dougall has genuine competition for his place when he's back fit.
I personally didn’t think he played that badly. Not the best, but certainly not the worst player on the pitch.
He played, we won. He's playing out of position and hasn't had a long enough run of games for us to really show us what he's about. I expect big things from him, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
