Hi, please just take a few seconds to sign this petition if you would

Our local high school now Featherstone Academy part of the Rodillian Trust have decided to stop all rugby league in school and play Rugby Union.

This is not about what is best league or union it’s about the head of the school going against the whole history and culture of the community and not giving a ****.

This change could effect both the amateur and professional game in the town. Being a coach at Fev Lions myself I know how hard it is to get players down to the club already.

I know some may find this petition a bit petty but imagine if Schools in Barnsley were to stop playing Football.

    Thanks.

    Signed it Andy!!
I'm a former Union player, but League watcher (Trinity)...League goes to the very roots of the town and vice versa....the person making this decision is a prat.

That's a real shame. I can see Rugby League dying off as it is with having to add teams like Toronto to the system to try and get interest back up. Living in the town that invented the sport it's sad leaving the train station and seeing the George Hotel shut for years now, when that building started it all. Look at England playing one of the other top nations yesterday and only half filling the stadium in a major English city. Good luck with it.

Signed - just out of curiosity has the school given any justification for ignoring decades of tradition and the wishes of parents and the local community because I cant think of any good reasons

No justification just said we’re playing union now end off. Cancelled all community work Fev Rovers do in the school, coaching, after school clubs etc. I think The other Rodillian schools in Leeds play union, doesn’t mean this school should change

Have you got your MP involved ?
Tradition should be part of the curriculum as it is in private schools .
Think if you got councillors and MPs or anyone in the community with a voice should embarrass them

Yes mate. This petition is the first step really to show how people feel. All the main councillors are on the committee of Fev Lions and are right behind this. Fev Rovers have been at them for a few weeks now with no success so asked for help. The head governor at the school is a parent of one of the kids I coach. She’s said we need to get a petition up first because the school don’t believe people will be bothered. Next step news paper with quotes from councillors and rovers, lions etc

I went to school in Pontefract and we only played Union. I could never understand why.

Has the school always played League Andy? I only ask as I went to St Wilfrid's up the north end of Featherstone (1985-92) and only had the Union code available.

Does the school have a lot of matches against others playing League? Going back to my St Wilfrid's days, there were a lot of schools playing Union across the region who we played virtually every weekend from October to April.

With a late father born and bred in the town and no doubt turning in his grave, I hope your efforts help keep a proud tradition alive.
