We have got 5 points from a win and a draw so presumably our draw is worth 2 points as well I assume its a winning draw on penalties gets you an extra point
Not quite - there is a 4 goal goal difference between us but we are playing Bradford so if they score a goal it improves theirs by 1 and reduces ours by 1 if we lose by 2 goals we will go out because goal differences will be level but Bradford will have scored more goals than us
Cheers . But that’s crackers. It would mean that if you needed to win a game with a bonus point and you were winning 1-0 in the 90 minute, you’d have to let the opposition score then beat them in the Penalty shoot out. At the same time that you were trying to let them score, they would be trying not to, in order to go through. I fear the football authorities may be damaging the credibility of this compotition
I was thinking if say, you needed four points from a game (a win and a bonus point for winning a penalty shoot out) then if you were winning 1-0 with a few minutes to go, that would only get you three points. So, you’d need to concede an equaliser in order to try to win on penalties (where you’d then get three pints for winning the game and an extra one for winning the shoot out. All predicated on my understanding of the allocation of points!
No no no. We’d have to deliberately concede an equaliser in order to force the shoot out, and then win it. That way we’d get four points rather than just the three if we won the game over 90 mins.
Is it only the group winners then, or do the top two from each of the groups go through to the knockout stages ?. If we beat Bradford then we've won the group of course, and maybe a draw with them (regardless of the pens), will put us through as well ?.
Yeah you've really misunderstood I think. Points: 3 for a win in regular time 2 for a win on penalties following a draw 1 for a loss on penalties following a draw 0 for a loss in regular time
Max points on offer is 3. If you are drawing after 90 mins = 1 point Penalty shootout follows... win that get an extra point. So to clarify a win is 3, a penalty shootout winning draw is 2, a shootout losing draw is 1 and loss is 0.
But you only have a penalty shoot out if it ends a draw. Its 3 for a win, 2 for a winning shootout after a draw, 1 for a losing shootout after a draw and nowt for a defeat. You cant get 4 points.
