And Im guessing TM that the teams who finish as runners up in their groups, will have to play away then in the next knockout round ?.
Spot on. We need to beat Bradford (or draw and win the shootout) to win the group, which guarantees a home draw against a runner up from another group.
What do we qualify for ? Is it straight knock out with all teams in the draw or is it still a North or South section
I've posted this before about trying to deliberately score own-goals, but I just love it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbados_4–2_Grenada_(1994_Caribbean_Cup_qualification)
You'll be pleased to know I had an excellent nights sleep. Feel fully refreshed and, if I'm up to it, I fully intend to try to understand the rules of the competition again tonight. I'll shall share my thoughts on this Board because I know they are appreciated.
I wish they'd do this in league football. Always seems unfair that there are less points available for a drawn game (1 each = 2) than a win (3 for the winner). It would also produce a generation of players used to penalty shoot-outs.
Many years ago it was 2 points for a win and as now 1 for a draw. The three 3 points for a win was introduced to discourage teams from playing out games for a draw and encourage them to keep pressing for a win I don’t fancy the idea of a shoot out after a drawn game. You see too many games at the World Cup where teams play for a draw from the start in the hope of winning the shoot out. I sometimes feel it would be better to scrub the match and go straight to penalties
Well, I was working on the basis of an earlier post which seemed to suggest you got three points for a win and one for winning the penalty soot out. What I didn't grasp was that after ninety minutes you appear to get two points for a draw and an extra point if you win the shoot out. It was remiss of me to ever believe the football authorities would introduce a format that made little sense. I really should have more faith as there is no evidence to suggest they have ever done that.....ever. Although I'm still a little aggrieved at the format which allowed Arsenal (finished 5th in the Division) to be promoted to the top fight in 1919 at the expense of Barnsley (who had finished 3rd). Luckily someone was able to slowly explain to me that " Barnsley isn't in London, you fool." Then I understood.
Errrrrrr......you still haven't grasped it. It's 1 point for a draw, and 1 point for winning the shoot out. Hee hee!
Gally, This is someone posting on a duplicate account - they used to post under the name ‘Dianne Abbott Tyke’.
None of you are making me feel good about myself. I'm going to the chip shop in Hemsworth to make myself feel a little better. Who knows who I might bump into.
Now that you've got the hang of the Checkatrade points system, you can move on to the next level and learn cricket scoring...
Up there with the Millwall fan who tried to buy a match ticket for the seat he held the season ticket for, then got mardy because it had already been sold.
