Former Barnsley player Peter Price who’s time at the reds was marred by injury has been inducted into the Peterborough United all time hall of fame. Price who scored over 70 league and cup goals in 118 games for Posh in just four seasons before joining Barnsley where his career was cut short by injury. Price has been invited to Peterborough Utd for this week’s game.

Do we have a hall of fame? If so, who is in it?

Remember him well. Played alongside John Peachey prior to Brian Joicey arriving. Seems a looong time ago.

Peter ‘Panda’ Price. One of the first players I ever saw in a reds shirt. But nonetheless I kept following them.

Peter joined the local Police force and became a regular in my local pub for a while. He once brought his Welsh Under 21 caps in for us to see. Really nice bloke and came for a kick- about with us on occasions.

Decent player at that standard. And he could look after himself.

Remember one game where he was chopped down. Got straight up and nutted the bloke. Not even a booking.

    Different times!

Price was OK. Was not JP (his dress sense was questionable at best). Joicey was the best striker that we had had up to that point & that includes Mick Butler.

Decent player and a nice bloke as well. I remember when we signed him from there was no official confirmation of the transfer fee (nothing changes then!) but it was anything from a free transfer to £20,000. In his first match after his permanent transfer he scored a hat trick against Southport at Oakwell, prompting Keith Lodge's Barnsley Chronicle back page headline "What price Price now?"

The link in his signing for us was Jim Iley, who had a genuine penchant for picking up and developing talent, such as he did with Mick Butler for us. Peter Price was from Wrexham, but joined Liverpool as a youngster, getting Welsh U21 caps, but no Anfield appearances. Iley signed him for Posh and his career took off alongside the equally prolific Jim Hall, who was a nondescript from Northampton Town before Iley turned him around. I always thought he played as if he was carrying an injury, maybe to his back, in the way he ran with shoulders back, but he had a great eye for goal. I seem to recall seeing him play his debut away at Shrewsbury Town. We lost that game 1-3, but I think that it was Price's header which came back off the crossbar for debutant youngster Sanderson to score our only goal. Good player. Did well for us. Didn't know he joined the police force. Was he tall enough??
