The hospitality suite or Redz bar as it is known can hold 100 diners. Hospitality was sold out months ago. It is open after the match for all fans.
Apart from Saturday obviously, I wish Accrington nothing but success. Seem a brilliant club and if @Stanleyhouse is anything to go by, the fans are great too. Good luck for the rest of the season- after the weekend of course.
Lets hope Accrington fans are welcomed into Redfearns Bar in March. Some great info been put on here by Stanleyhouse.
I don't mean to go all Shef***ld Wednesday here and apologies before hand but, is this the biggest away following to attend the Wham stadium to your knowledge?
I believe it is, only due to the new stand. Sunderland will beat it next month as there will be more areas completed by then
I'm absolutely gutted I can't make this game, due to a friend's 50th Birthday. My Mum was from Accrington originally, and lived on Avenue Parade, which was close to the old ground. She went to school next to that ground, and I remember her taking us there when I was pretty young, long before I or she were actually interested in football, and telling me all about it. We went for a walk up the Coppice (which I thought was a mountain), but is probably a small hill, but had great views over the town. I'm thrilled to bits that Accrington are doing so well. Ironically, my Mum's first game was watching (and half-heartedly supporting) Blackburn at Oakwell shortly after they made the move over to Yorkshire. She only started following Barnsley after I got interested an the early 80s. I'm sure, had she been here, she'd have loved to go back and see it all. Can't remember another team going to so much trouble to welcome and accommodate our fans. I really hope that we roll the red carpet out when Accrington visit Oakwell.
Yes it is. (apart from pre season friendlies v Blackburn and Burnley) Sunderland have a couple of hundred more seats when they play here on 8th Dec.
The school was Peel Park. It's still there. The old Peel Park Ground was next to it. Just a playing field now. There is the Peel Park pub too. Lots of memorabilia/ photos on the walls. It's a 20 minute walk from our stadium. (on the map I posted)
Yes, I remember it. I reckon I was only 10 or 11 when I went, but I reckon I could even pick out the house she lived on in that terrace. I think there was still an old turnstile next to the school.
Yeah, I was doing a bit of research into the old ground, and saw that the school kids had been out "treasure hunting" and found bits of the old ground. Must be strange having gone to a stadium and for it to just dissappear. 3 parts of Oakwell have been replaced over time, but there'll be mixed emotions when the old west stand has gone.
Same with Bradford Park Ave. Some of the terracing still remains, and its pretty close to the centre of Bradford. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...st-rich-history-bradford-lost-football-ground
I used to explore Bradford Park Avenue's derelict ground when my dad took me to Yorkshire's John Player League games in the seventies. I seem to remember pre-decimilisation pricing on the turnstiles, but that doesn't add up as they didn't leave until 1973.
Any last minute questions? Coaches will be parked next to the stadium but it will be difficult to park your car near if you arrive too late. Plenty of parking in town, accrington cricket club and Accrington Academy school off Whalley Rd.
