Its gone from him playing last 10 minutes to getting a guard of honour wearing the no.10 and taking the captains armband. Total f**king joke. He did nothing for England, we won absolutely squat with him playing or even got close. As soon as we get shut of him we get to semi's of a world cup. Kane will be top scorer in a few years anyway so all this is pointless.

So to sum up England's problem was the lad who scored all the goals that got us to tournaments. Never understand this need to blame someone and to often pick one of the better players.
It's not just us mind I remember Tim Vickerey the South American Football Journalist saying in the world cup sections of Argentina's media and fans were blaming Messi for the short comings of the side.
Rooney is our most capped outfield player and record goal scorer but the way people go on you would think he had been useless. Now he's making a cameo in a largely meaningless game that most people complaining wouldn't have watched anyway. I Really don't see why all the fuss and outrage about it. I get some people might find it a bit cringeworthy but it's hardly worth getting upset about.

I personally think Rooney was one of the better players in ENGLAND, Yep he was good, i liked him.

LITTLE BIG MAN SYNDROME, was his downfall, and this is why he's got so many HATERS.

I would av bin HAPPY for him not to mek a cum back but POLOTICS in football WIN AGAIN.

Nothing to do with management or the other players then? Wonder why successive England managers continued to pick him.

I have no issue with a final hurrah in an England shirt for what is his testimonial, but it should be just that, a testimonial. Why don’t we put Beckham on the wing? David Seamen in the nets? Give them some more caps?

A guard of honour is an embarrassment...

It’s all about the money... again. Football is a game, but not the game the bankers are playing with us.

And by the way, Delph as captain?!? The mind boggles!!!

None of which were when it matters, save for a goal against Uruguay in a competitive defeat I believe.

John Stones has twice as many World Cup goals as the "great" Wayne Rooney.

But that was against a awful team and by the Rooney logic we don't count those.

Rooney didn't even manage any World Cup goals against crap teams...

So what's his actual goal tally for England once we've done these adjustments for real goals? 10? Well I'm educated now.
Had a look down Kane's record out interest, so he's not on 19 it's actually about 3.

I'm not arguing about whether Rooney's goals "count," my point is that the total number of goals he has scored does not in itself prove greatness. When you're assessing greatness and contribution to the national team you have to consider the context of the goals. It's absurd to suggest otherwise. When you consider that his England career isn't brilliant. He is indisputably England's top scorer but in my opinion he's nowhere near being one of the greats. His England career since 2004 has been disappointing and I don't think anyone can argue with that. I genuinely can't remember any great performances by Rooney in an England shirt post-2004 and I don't think we'd have done significantly worse during that period if someone like Jermaine Defoe etc. had played in his place.

If England had played as many internationals in years gone by, there would have been players with more caps and goals than Rooney. Being awarded a cap for a substitute appearance has devalued the honour.

I obviously have different views on this to the majority. No problem we are all entitled to our opinions, for the record I won't be watching the game anyway as I'm working tonight.
I think Rooney has been a top player for England and had a truly excellent career. He has always given his all and broke many records. The only thing I think he is guilty of is not living up to other people's expectations not his own.
