Is that really how we pronounce it? Noticed it on several fans forums in reference to Yorkshire clubs. Is there a part of God's County that actually speaks like that?
Also does anybody round here say “Reet” instead of right? Reyt or reight maybe, non Yorkshire folk tend to spell it reet.
It’s like if you get chatting to folk on holiday and you say that you’re from Barnsley they nearly always over exaggerate the word Barnsley....oh Baaarnsleee
HaHa they do. People get mixed up because I tell them I'm a Barnsley fan so they assume I'm from the town and have a Barnsley accent, but I don't. It's only a stones throw from Hemsworth to Brierley but the accent changes on the border. My harrogate mate always ends his texts with "tha nos" or "sithi"
While that’s true, people that aren’t from around here won’t be able to tell the difference. Some people from further afield (the US, Canada, Australia) can’t tell the difference between my accent and even Scottish in some cases. I’m not very broad accent wise, but it’s still interesting.
Iam not from Barnsley but i do talk quite broad so Iam often asked if i am from there. Yeah Aussies and Yanks nearly always think we are Scottish, I always say 'wi dunt sarnd nowt like em' that gets a strange look. Been asked in America if we know the Queen a few times, i say yeah often go for tea lol.
Yup. Americans.... 'Oh my gosh, so you're like Danish or something?' And of course. 'I'm from Barnsley.' 'Ahhh from Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarnsley.' 'Barnsley, yeah'.
Yeah, true. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from different parts of the country either. Once remember a Charlton fan saying he could tell my accent wasn't the same as the rest of the lads from tarn though. Wonder if he thought I was George Spicer?
was in florida with my lads a few years ago and we got talking to an American family and they thought we were Amish or Mormons because we used thee and tha in our conversation ,
