for years I've thought this guy is an overpaid underworked a**hole. The fact that he is now the subject of scrutiny in the press has been a long time coming. The fact that he earns so much whilst the "underclass" of the footballers population (infirmed, mental health issues, poverty etc) ie ..... his members is totally unjust and morally corrupt. The man needs sacking.
Whilst I think it obscene for anyone to be paid £2m per annum. I would doubt he would be underworked. Having 3,500 members. As I understand it 300 disgruntled members have asked him to resign. A full investigation into the affairs have been welcomed. I think it wise to wait for the outcome. Not a supporter of his. But don’t know enough to dislike him .
He earns one quid for every 10 that the PFA takes in from its members. For a union that’s pretty appalling. I’m not sure how many people work in the organisation but I bet the rest of them earn less than he does combined. He’s a ******* charlatan, and when you consider the experience from the Astle family it tells a story.
For 18 years Brendon Batson was his assistant and the word in footballing circles is that BB did most of the work, which could explain why Batson got the MBE in 2001 and OBE in 2015 for services to football. In 2007 he joined the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. During his time at the PFA he was paid no way near his boss.
And to be fair when you consider the amount of footballers I know who have paid in, fallen on bad times or need help, my old man inclusive then Gordon Taylor can **** right off.
Figures mentioned in the media (from memory) suggest the overall wage bill is £4.05m for around 60 employees. Taylor received £2.29m. Turnover was approx. £25m. It must do something of benefit for players, but football is a very different animal to what it was 20-30 years ago and I wonder if its adapted to suit. What I do think is that £2.29m for running a not for profit organisation is obscene. But its kind of the norm now in the media facing stratospheric big business world. Some charity bosses are pushing through massive salaries. And you have CEO's asking for and receiving huge bonuses and share options. I know plenty of CEO's of big businesses who get nothing like that though and the hours they work are crazy and the pressure is vast. But £2.29m in a union/non profit company only turning over £25m.... that's wrong on every level I can imagine.
I concur. I’ve worked in huge corporates for years, I now run my own businesses. I’ve not come across a CEO in any sector that earns such exorbitant amounts of money. EON where I worked for years has an annual global turnover in the billions, it’s CEO earned less than a million. He’s taking the ****
For me this encapsulates everything that is wrong with football...........a man that takes an awful lot OUT of the game and gives a dis-proportional amount back. Just thinking about it - if he took just half salary and gave the other half to just causes like Mr Astle .............
I’d like to see him lose absolutely everything. Another parasitic public figure taking more than he gives.
He's also earned a shed load by doing after dinner speeches. God knows why. I saw one once. It was truly shocking, and I bet he didn't give any of his fee to the Union (or its fee paying members).
