When we got back to 3-2 and until the 4th went in I felt it looked more likely for us to equalise than they were to score. We were throwing everything at it, corner after corner, so it was bound to leave some holes at the back- a loss is a loss, might as well go for it.

I can't honestly see how you felt 6-2 would've been more accurate and perhaps you need to question why you possibly have a hugely different perspective to the majority if everyone else appears to be loons... ;)

I think there are some good points in this thread and I can certainly relate. In terms of pressing style, when we're at it, we're very hard to play against. There are times where we pass the ball better than any team in this league. Our top 2 strikers will get us plenty of goals. We look like we keep lots of clean sheets, so strong suggestions our defence are among the best in the league, our shots per game has exceeded 20 a lot of times. When you look at stats, we can look impressive.

There's this something else though. And I think it's no surprise just about every week now, we're getting teams pressing us hard, getting in our faces and getting at our back 4 with route one or channel balls.

It's like Muhammed Ali.... with a glass chin. And I think the frustration is now we've been glaringly found out, we either aren't doing anything about it, or we can't do anything about it.

Huge credit to the team for trying to fight back from 3-0 down. I can't fault that. But there is a huge gaping hole down our right hand channel and its as obvious as a full moon on a crystal clear night. Wiseman was a liability. But this is something else, and if we're being found out by a simple ball hoofed when he is there, or most of the time when he's waddling back and still in the opponents half while they are creating a chance, that's just not right. It doesn't generally happen down our left, so it's not tactical.

It has to come to a head. Give Williams a go, even Brown. At least there will be more effort to try and defend. If we were scoring 5 every game and he was contributing clear assists and giving the opposition a head ache, then you could suggest the positives outweigh the negatives.

Shame. But if a player doesn't want to, or is incapable of doing the basics of his job, there should be no place for them at this football club. When that laziness, stupidity, ignorance (whatever it actually is about our right sided...….. player(?)) causes such an extravagant weakness that is easily exploited and undoes the positives in our team, that compounds the issue even more.

Hmm. I didn’t think they stuffed us at all. I’m no happy clapper but I don’t throw a tantrum when we lose.

I thought Sunderland were dogsh1t in the main apart from a 10 minute spell, where we defended poorly and that’s not just on the defence as a whole. Yes we should have defended better but the midfield got caught out as well. Should have defended better as a team, when were under the cosh we went hung ho.

Added to the fact it wasn’t a penalty which created the 10 minutes of madness, I thought it was the best we’ve played in possession since Peterborough.

I think we have proved we are more than a match for probably the best team in the league.

We’ll beat them at Oakwell based on last night.

My sunderland mate stated the same.....not often i disagree with jay...but i felt we deserved a point...a bit like we were lucky against donny.
There was a 15 to 20 minute spell in the second half where they were hoofing balls anywhere in to touch etc and we were looking good with great passing ...they couldnt cope with us.
We do need again to learn from last night...im not going to jump on the cavare bandwagon....i think enough has been stated.

Wide open in middle of park, Mcgeehan and Mowatt need help when being attacked, but wide player Potts too wide and Thiam takes an age to get back in position, both need to get back and tuck in.

Reight hand channel we have hed nowt last 2/3 games Cavare shocking at times and Potts has now been poor for last 3 games. Brown looked better at Reight back when he came on.

Crosses last neet a few good uns in but nobody attacking them and the rest were just crap basically.

Sunderland missed 3 good headed chances unchallenged, but their defense looks piss poor and we should have put them under more pressure yet for times there was a lack of movement going on up front.

Enjoyable game despite result, the penalty hard to tell at game and on tv clip but if pushed wouldn`t argue with ref on that.

Hope your analysis is right, but are you ignoring the oppositions approach to the game after going 3-0 up, foot off the pedal etc?

I’d agree if they took their foot off the gas after 70 minutes after destroying us for an hour, but they didn’t. Even before they scored the pen we were on top, then had 10 minutes where our heads wobbled off, then we were by far the best team.

Reading through the comments on here & I think Jay who I normally agree with is a bit harsh.

I think Stendel needs to reign it in a bit, attacking football’s good to watch but we’re too attack minded, full backs who don’t track back & two central midfielders that are converted attacking midfielders.

It’s almost as if Stendel thinks Lindsay & Pinnock are good defenders they’ll cope but they’re getting over run. Numerous times in the last 2 games they’ve had to slide in & make desperation tackles because we’re too high up the pitch.

For me we need to take a leaf out of another German in Klopp who built a really exciting side but realised they were too attack mixed & has added a bit more steel to them & stopped the midfield & full back leaving the centre backs as exposed.

I feel like our strategy is we’ll play attacking football, create more chances than the opposition & in most cases score as many as the opposition. The problem is against better quality sides like Sunderland they’ll take the chances you give them. 4 shots on target & 4 goals sums it up. They didn’t let us off like Doncaster did.

Had a text from a Sunderland supporter who I went to Uni with (74 to 78) and he says we are easily the best side he's seen this season.
