............. he went on to say the young players were overawed by the experience.

    Well then .........

There was an experienced player at the club at the start of the season who wore his heart on his sleeve, was Barnsley through and through, would run is ballax off for Barnsley and was also very vocal on the field.

That player could also beat a defender and was the best crosser of a ball at the club.
Something we haven’t now got at the club - which is diabolical now that we have Moore and Woodrow in the middle.

They called that player Adam Hammill.

If the new owners want to progress with Barnsley then they have to consider that the ‘KEEP THEM YOUNG’ is not always the best way of achieving promotion - and thus increasing the financial status of the club.

Sometimes having a few older players in there will increase the success and therefore the profitability of Barnsley - even though these older players might not have much re-saleable value.

Think it's time the club made a phone call to Adam. He'd be the difference for us. Offer him 18months with option for extra year in his benefit. Do his badges and I'm sure he'd be happy with that.

Be daft not to contact him. Moore would be on for 30 goals I reckon and Woodrow 15 plus.

I think that boat re: Hammill has sailed.

It’s the principle I’m talking about here i.e. purposely excluding older experienced players could cost us dear.

I’ve tried forget about Hammill but watching Thiam time & time again waste the ball in good positions last night was painful. Would’ve loved Hammill to be delivering to Moore & Woodrow last night

Most of us said that not signing Hammill was a big mistake and I stand by that. He would make a difference in this team in this league. On the wider point I completely agree about experience and it was painfully evident last night after the dodgy penalty decision. We need an older head to steady things when we're under pressure. We just don't have a real leader on the pitch.

Totally agree but club seem to want to sign players with a sell on fee. No chance of a future John Hendrie, Neil Thompson or Paul Wilkinson

I'll go one further and say that not only does it not work but it CANT work.
You simply cannot be more successful than your rivals whilst rejecting the majority of the available players based purely on their date of birth.

Club one: uses statistics to identify players from a pool of 2,000
Club two: uses statistics to identify players from a pool of 500

Common sense dictates that if all else is equal then the club willing to look st the entire pool is likely to be more successful.

We need some hard nosed tough AF enforcer. Needed it last year, still need it now and for all the best will in the world that type ain’t 23.

Most people learn better with experienced people around....whatever job you do.
Its absolutely no difference in football and further to that an experienced (good) player would bring out the best in the younger ones...make em look better and heres the good bit......make em worth more!!

Think we should go for Alan McCormack from Luton. Make him captain

Couple of old heads surrounded by young uns to do all the running would probably make a big difference - especially at centre half.

An old central defender and an old central midfielder who can organise and kick the fvck out of opponents would get us in the top two.

It is never going to happen with these owners, though. Mind you, they did sign Matt Mills, I guess. It didn't work out but it broke the mould of only ever getting younger players.

Roberts wouldn't get in the team over pinnock or Lindsay. Be better bringing james bree back even though he has played little in 2 years.

Let's see what happens over the transfer window. I am sure lots of options are being considered. I don't think Hammill is an option or a solution and neither do I want some old journeyman simply because they've been around the block. Hammill was the nearest we had to being a leader on the pitch of late - I admit that. I expect the club to look overseas again.
