Bloody hell, London Transport have been running longer trains with far more passengers and do they have a guard, no. Why the hell does Northern Rail have to have them?

I still go through this ***** four times a day. The weekend strikes have made my life very challenging. Thankfully I’m halfway through my driving lessons and expect to be on the road for next season. Hope so anyway. It’s bad enough the strikes and the ***** service offered up day in day out, but to keep increasing the fares is like someone slapping their **** in your face.

Horrific mode of transport in this country. Trains that are barely fit for purpose. Late 9 times out of 10. Beyond expensive. Not enough carriages for the amount of passengers. It’s a huge **** show and unless you commute every day you’ll never understand how bad things really are.

    They want re-nationalising though.

Your idea of no guards is proper Tory. I stand behind their striking, even if it is impacting badly upon my own life/job.

Keep cutting service levels, put up your prices & give the CEO a massive bonus. Yep, now't to worry about.

I made my comment before I read yours. You are right, the only way is public ownership. They are taking the piss.

The idea of no guards is awful, especially for women who travel alone.
Also there's loads of stations up here not geared up for no guards. Chapeltown for one - you can't get a ticket on the North bound platform. The only way to pay is via the guard.

Northern are not getting rid of guards.
It’s the southern types that are trying to.

No it’s not. The ticket machine is for both platforms. Technically, you could be done for evasion if you dropped on unlucky.

Shame I can’t do them for evasion when my train is cancelled.

Just want to make things impossible for common people. We don't deserve adequate transport!

There's a time when we all have to move on. Just like the poor chimney sweeps and milkmen before them, the hostlers, switchboard operators and typists, technology has diminished their role. No sympathy for them, I hope the rail companies don't back down.

Still striking tomorrow but it's looking more hopeful that future planned Saturday strikes will be called off. When the new trains arrive the only good thing is more seats. For any other reason they might as well save their money.

They won't lose their jobs - still support their action though

Not sure it's you who misunderstood my response or I've misunderstood yours. I'm also behind the strike. Good luck to em.

I didn't say you weren't but my point is there are no job losses - they will be moved into other positions

The new trains are not even coming on the Sheffield Leeds hudds line so enjoy the shake rattle and roll.
