I wonder if the Southend forums are awash with complaints about the officials, justified or not, cos it would seem we got the rub of the green once or twice.
I've pointed out on Twitter that the offside goal was definitely the right decision. People seem not to realise that two players have to be between the attacking player and the goal when the ball is played forward. On this occasion Davies was forward of the attacking players. Obviously, it is usually the case that the goalkeeper is nearest the goal and therefore only one other defender needs to be between the attacker and the goal for the attacker to be onside. It was definitely the correct decision.
not been so only getting impressions from the commentary i heard Southend perspective of course but we've all seen the over reaction at times on here
I think We have been fortunate this season in a few games Wimbledon and Luton shirt pulling we could of given pens away, luton the offside goal seemed harsh on them tbf, but the Sunderland penalty was never a pen the replays after clearly show pinnock get the ball and the referee in a poor position to make the call. As for today I haven't seen the offside call but if the other poster says it was right I'll take his word for it.
The player who puts it in the net isn't but they have two players behind Adam Davies near the goal line when it's kicked.
Course they are offside- somebody said they weren't interfering with play- two of them on the goal line in the centre of the goal - how can they not be interfering with play
Yeah but they don't seem to have anything to do with the ball being kicked in. Seems a fair goal to me.
Chris Powell not happy with the offside either..... https://www.southendunited.co.uk/news/2018/december/powell-barnsley-reaction/
Correct decision. The ball goes through the two offside players, how can they not be interfering with play?
Not one to be overly partisan in these matters - I hate referee conspiracy theories. But that was 100% the right decision in that phase of play.
Because they haven’t impeded an opponent or touched the ball, the player who put the ball in the net was not offside. In today’s game that shouldn’t be called offside
