For me they weren't active. The ball didn't touch them and they actually moved AWAY from the ball. Pinnock didn't make any attempt to step towards the ball either so they didn't impede him. I seem to remember a few years ago a manchesManunited player in an offside position on the line jumped over the ball so he didn't touch it and because he didn't stop anyone touching the ball and didn't make any attempt to touch it himself it was allowed to stand
I've watched the highlights 8736 times. The ball clearly deflected off one of their offside blokes on about 6432 of those viewings. It's a fact that they were in an offside position. It's debateable, though, whether they were interfering with play. I think the ball must have clipped one of them, and the linesman possibly heard a double noise, like a bat-pad in cricket. If it did deflect off one of them, clearly offside. If it didn't, debateable.
We have had so many rubbish decisions against us this season I don’t really care about whether it was a wrong or right decision: everything that goes around comes around.
Yes I’ve already said they were in an offside position there can be no denying that, but that’s never been the issue in this thread. I also know that by just being stood in an offside position you’re not necessarily offside. This is why this discussion is actually taking place
Sometimes you get a tough decision go against you. The ref gave the goal, then saw the Lino's flag, had a word and I thought he then pointed to the centre circle and we started doing the equaliser dance, not to be I'm afraid. The fact that he and the lino were wrong is irrelevant to the final result but it was quite fun watching your lot getting very nervous as Turner headed our third 'goal' and the crowd finally woke up and were baying for more. You were the better side on the day, but it wouldn't have been an injustice if we had sneaked a replay. We now have 9 established first teamers out injured for the rest of the season so getting results is becoming a bit of a task. Good luck in the next round, I hope you get a good draw.
We know only too well about tough decisions mate believe me, at Sunderland on Tuesday we had a poor penalty decision against us. Thanks for posting your thoughts and the good wishes. Sounds like your Chairman needs to get busy in January, even if it’s just loans. Oh, and good luck.
Just got back. Not had chance to check everywhere but not seen anybody commenting on Southend's 2nd goal being scored from a corner that should have been a goal kick! So it would appear that things evened themselves up!!
Just seen the highlights and Davo looks to be appealing for handball also the linner pushes his hand forward when challenged by Southend players
**** em didnt count. Southern fairies. Who cares i dont history book says 2-4. We get shafted alot specially v sunderland not a pen for me. Remember mike useless lovely person dean giving white a pen at oakwell and he was 1 metre oitside the box. Remember hudders scoring direct from a throw in donkeys yra ago. Our keeper let it go in as no one touched it and was given.
Looks like I suffered a brain fart in my last post. Turner's 'goal' was a prod in not a header and the Ref still got it wrong, git..
