I have been thinking about the january transfer window & one player who would bolster the squad for me would be Ashley Fletcher . We have our muscle & target man in Moore , we have our fox in the box with Woodrow & the addition of Fletcher would bring us an alternative striker , one who brings guile & pace to the party . He has been in the situation of a promotion push with us, he has experience of the pressure that play offs bring , he has experience of wembley & would be ideal to boost the squad . Of course it would have to be a loan deal & I know his wages will be astronomical but it might just be worth it ,as I am sure he could make a difference.

I would certainly agree we need another striker. Any injury to Woodrow or Moore would be a problem. Looks like Brown has a future further down the pitch, but regardless I don’t think we should be reliant on Brown or Victor for the 3rd striker position. When we went up we had Fletcher and Winnall, with Toney to bring on.

Fletcher is really struggling, but can’t see him wanting to drop down to League 1. Imagine a Blackburn/Bolton/Wigan or Rotherham will be willing to take a punt like Sunderland did last year. I don’t think the bloke has fulfilled the potential he showed with us in League 1. But he needs somewhere to play football regularly. Out of our price range but I think he would benefit from playing for a top end L1 club to get form and confidence back.

No, apart from playing in the premier league for West ham & moving for £7 million . I think he would be the real deal with us , we suited him before & I am sure with the extra experience he now has , he would it again for us.

Good god no !! As others have said done nothing since he left us and I am sick and tired of the Fletcher rumours every single transfer window , he epitomises everything that is wrong with the English transfer system ... £7 million for someone who showed some potential in League 1 a few years ago and has hardly played since !
Nothing against the lad and I did really rate him in his loan spell last time but it really is time we move on ..

Three goals in 52 league games, between three different clubs since leaving us....

We would have to waste a vast amount of budget to even think about a loan. Even if Chien was willing to buy him and pay him whatever it took to bring him back here I wouldn't want him.

    Utter insanity

His experience of shopping at weekends definitely isn't what's needed.

Hunger gone after his money moves. Welcome to modern football.

Would welcome him back but can't imagine him wanting to play back up to Moore and Woodrow. Which he would be to start with I'd imagine. Not the right timing for me.

Whether he has failed or succeeded at other clubs doesn't mean he will fail or succeed here it all depends on if he's motivated to play here and if he fits in to our squad. Only Stendell and his staff can make an attempt at that decision but they don't know him and not many of that squad are still here other than Davies and izzy. Don't think he ll be on the spreadsheet either anymore. I would love to see Ashley Fletcher back like hammill we may just suit him.

Yes - Fletcher would be a great signing.
But someone who can beat a defender and put quality crosses in would be my preferred option.

If he’s happy to sit on the bench and be back up to Woodrow + Moore AND he takes a substantial pay cut then why not?

The bias our fans show towards ex players is bizarre at times.
If his name was being put about and he hadn't played for us, you'd be sectioned given his record for the last few years.

Why would he have to take a pay cut if he was on loan ? His contract for wages with his parent club would be met . I also do not understand why any striker signed by the club would be back up , surely competition is healthy & very often three strikers are used throughout a 90 minutes & if anyone thinks we are going to get through to may just using two strikers then they are extremely optimistic

Some of the comments on here are awful, where’s the evidence his ‘hunger has gone’?

He left Man Utd to try & play games, he then left West Ham to try & play games, he then left Middlesbrough on loan to try & play games.

If he had no hunger he’d have took a new deal at Man Utd & spent the last few years living near his mates & watching the money roll in & telling everyone he’s a Man Utd player.

Just because things don’t work out for someone doesn’t mean they aren’t trying.

Bare in mind many of our better players haven’t started performing well until their second seasons here, Fletcher’s never had any substantial time at a club.

Also bare in mind the gap between the championship & league one has gotten bigger in the last few years. It’s a hell of a lot easier to score goals at this level than it is the championship. For evidence look at Moore, Bradshaw, Woodrow & Fletcher himself.

Would I take him? Yes of course as long as it’s on low wages as we need another striking option but realistically he’s probably on too much for us & they wouldn’t loan him out unless he was guaranteed games, he isn’t going to be going on loan anywhere as a back up, he needs games.

If we could guarantee getting back the player he was last time he was here then yes I'd carry him back but sadly that period of his career looks like it was his high point and as others have said he has done nothing of note since.

Having said that sometimes a player just fits a club and maybe we are his club.

He wouldn't be my number one target but I wouldn't be protesting outside Oakwell if we did sign him on an appropriate contract.

But we have seen what he can do, its not like a random player who nobody has seen play. Whether he could do it or not is another thing, certainly lost his way since leaving us.

He’d Be backup for our main two strikers at this moment because one has scored 6 in his last 6 games and the other has scored 5 in 5. To take one of them out of the team and replace him with Fletcher would be ridiculous.

Also I meant the wages we’d be would have to still be within our bracket. We can’t be breaking our budget for a loan deal especially on a player that would be coming in as a 3rd choice to start with.
